I began exploring dentistry by shadowing an orthodontist, who I accumulated 90 hours with.
I then started shadowing/volunteering at a private practice with a general dentist. She hired me as an intern after a few months, so by the time I apply to dental school, I will probably have over 1500 hours in her office.

My concern is that I didn't "branch out" enough. Should I try to shadow in another practice, and if so, should I try commercial or another private practice? Or would you guys say that dental school doesn't really care about how broad my experience is, because I have plenty of hours?

Thanks!!

Your hours are sufficient so don't worry about your experience not being broad enough, I shadowed 1 general dentist for 80 hours and got into 5 schools. I'd say you should shadow another practice or specialty just to get an idea of a different business model or the different opportunities you can pursue after dental school.

I shadowed 2 dentists for 100 hours for what that's worth. I also have 100 hours volunteering at a free dental clinic.

These answers really helped!! Thank you. 🙂 Maybe I will see if there are any dental clinics that can use an extra hand next term.
