Pain wise yes if you have poor posture it's gonna suck. Have a strong core and good posture and it'll only be mildly annoying. Loupes help scoop is better. If it wasn't manageable there would be 70 y.o dentists.
It all depends on how your schedule is organized, how many patients you choose to see and the procedures you perform on a daily basis. Most of my career, I have worked 8 hour days, but you subtract time that you use to do patients' charts, make calls, and handle other office business. It is wise to do the most tedious procedures, extractions, crown and bridge, etc., when you have the most energy in the morning. and allow for lighter procedures during the afternoon. Your hours vary and especially when the end of the week approaches. Most dental providers will use Friday as a light day, only work for a half day or don't work at all. Having an office that is ergonomically designed, a good number of dental assistants and being very well organized cuts down on the stress and physical tension. Dentistry is definitely manageable and the great thing about this field is being able to choose what you do, when you do it and how much you will do. It also helps to take the time to work out and stay healthy (smile).
