it aint easy being a pre-health student. joggling between raising pre-req and overall GPA, you also need to have EC activities/ volunteers. you study hard for the PCAT and still need to find time to hang out with your professor so you can get a good rec. letter.
Just wondering how many hours of sleep do you get each day?
also, how many hours do you spend on studying?

Sleep?

I have heard stories of this mythical thing called "sleep"....

Normally 7-8 hours. I love 9-10 hours on the weekends. 🙂 6 hours and below and I have a hard time functioning.

It's highly variable. On average I probably get about 4-5 hours but it ranges anywhere from 1-2 hours a day for most days and then a 12 hour crash occasionally. I tend to go about 24 hours then sleep for a few and then up for another 24 so this throws off any chance of a normal cycle.

Et tu Brute!!

I have two little ones (ages 3 & 4) that keep me busy. I tend to them throughout the day and study only after they are in bed at night. This makes for very very long all nighters and then its back up early in the morning when they get up. It's a ruthless cycle. All in all I get about 6 hours average. 😴

I sleep in between 7 to 9. I actually think I "function" better when I only get like 6 and a half, but it's hard to convince myself that when I'm in a nice warm bed.

I go to class from 1230-320pm and I work full-time 2nd shift (3:30pm to 12 midnight). So when I come home I study till about 3am and get up about 930 on weekdays. On the weekends if Im not working, I sleep about 12 hrs.

Sunday - Wednesday: 3-5 hours
Thursday - Saturday: 8+ hours

and I don't even study everyday.. 🙁

last semester my sleep schedule on a typical week might have looked like this-

sun nite - 0 hrs.
mon nite - 13 hrs
tues nite - 4 hrs
wed nite- 10 hrs
thurs nite-7 hrs
fri nite- 7 hrs
sat nite- 9 hrs

so 7hrs avg. i guess and some long naps

probably a bit higher this semester though 😀

that sounds like my schedule - I have twins that are 3 1/2 and my youngest is amost 2.

I typically go to bed at 12 (or later on my bad days) and wake up at 7 or 9. I have been doing this for 3 semesters in a row and the effects may finally starting to be affecting my sanity. lol.

Fortuantely I get lots of sleep on the weekends and have a super-human energy level so it doesn't really bother me too badly. Although I really ought to start going to bed at 10 on some nights.

All i know is that when these dang finals are over I am soooooooo going to flordia or savannah or somewhere to relax and eat bon bons and scratch myself in satisfying places and roll around in the sand and giggle.

everytime i try to nap for about 3-4 hours i ended sleeping through the whole night. have class at 10 in the morning. if i pull all nighters then ended up skipping morning classes. i was reading some report saying crashing during weekends dont really make up for the loss of sleep during day time. but those 12 hour sleep on sat sure hell feels good.

thru my whole undergrad I probably averaged around 8 hours a night. Not very often did I sleep less than that.

i like this thread!

one semester i decided to sleep more and got the highest gpa ever, so i guess if you can sleep more, your grades will improve... 8+ is what most pple say.

i get 4 hours if i dont feel sleepy but then the next day i need at least 6-7 and then go back to four... caffeine helps staying up

Full time school + Full time work + extracurriculars + relationships = about 3 hours of sleep a night.

say you wait to study an o-chem exam until the last minute.
the night before the test, would you
1) not sleep at all
2) sleep/nap first and then study til the test
3) study first and then sleep for 3 hours right before the test

4) Study before the last minute and get 8 hrs of sleep the night before.

I have a 3 year old (well he will be 3 on April 22) who is a die hard early bird. He gets up between 4:30 and 5:00 AM every morning no matter how late he stays up the night before. I guess he is wired that way. So that means that I get to rise and shine at this time too! 😍 It makes me very productive in the morning hours, but man I get really tired around 2 or 3 PM and have learned to take "power naps" to refresh myself. During the night I get around 5 hours of sleep. My body requires more and I tend to get colds frequently. 🙁 Oh well, thats life! 🙂

Sleep that's funny...lol. I think I've aged like 10 years from not getting any sleep. Any of you guys find yourself so damn grouchy from not getting sleep? God knows I do....ask my girlfriend. I work the graveyard shift and then head to classes. BTW coffee/colas/red bull does nothing for me anymore. Come to think about it I don't have much of a social life any more :scared:

i say about 6 hours a night, not because im studying but because i waste time in front of the computer and tv 😴

WVUPharm2007 and I get about 6 hours a night. We usually stop talking and fall asleep around 1am, and I get up at 7 for work. However, I'm doing work study and I run out of hours on Thursday, so I get to come in late (10:30 seems soooo late now), and then after that my earliest class is at 10:30 MWF... wow, we'll get to sleep in until 9 most day. That's going to be freakin' incredible.
