how many hours should I volunteer before changing department?

I've been in the ICU for a while and want to switch to another department with more patient interaction.
Just so I don't look like a flake, how many hours would make it a legitimate experience that I could talk about? I mean, I already gained from the experience and can talk about it, but how many hours would make it "solid" before I switch?

I should have at least 50 hours, probably more. Thanks!

Just go to another department. The ICU is limited patient interaction anyway. Most patients are sedated, on mechanical ventilation, or have delirium. A lot of ICU nurses actually like working in the ICU because patients don't talk much. Nurses become surprised when ICU patients start talking and asking for things.

Do what I'm planning to do (if you have time), I'm staying in transportation, but on another day I'll go volunteer with another department.

I really don't think the people in ICU care about how long you are there or about you being a "flake". You are there to A. help and B. gain clinical experience in various settings. Switch whenever you think you have gotten the most out of an area. If, after you have switch, you start to feel that you didn't get enough experience, you can always asked to be moved back.
