If you are a normal student, say 3.5 gpa's and 19-21AA DAT, with the required EC's, how many interviews would one get. Applying to 10-15 schools?

If you are below average say 3.3 gpa 18-19AA with required EC's and applying to 10-15 schools?

Above average 3.7 gpa's 20-24AA DAT with required EC's applying to 10-15 schools?

what does applying to more schools do?

less?

what if you are normal, or below avg but have super EC's (tons of volunteer/shadowing/etc)?

What if you are applying in July, late July, Aug, Sept?

Thanks for those who know answers, there are tons of students out there who I have associated with who are in these circumstances, so it would be worthwhile knowing. If you have been accepted or are in dental school share what you know please. :pompous:

There is no specific formula for getting interviews/acceptances. There are some people with high GPAs and low DATs that get accepted, there are some that don't. There are some people with tons of EC with poor GPA that get accepted, there are some that don't. A lot that differentiates those with average stats is your ECs, personal statement, letters of rec, etc. But there is no formula. There is a lot more to an applicant than just stats.

The reason people are advised to apply broadly is because it gives you a better chance to catch the attention of a specific school. Every school favors certain stats over others. As schools have rolling admissions it is recommended to apply earlier than later. The earlier schools see your application the more lenient they might be towards inviting you for an interview if you do have average stats. As you start applying later into September schools are already filling seats so they will be more picky with the remaining students they accept.

Keep the ideas flowing, what else do people think about these things? what are patterns that are seen? thanks for those who have shared so far.

I think it's best if you browse the "Official Interview/Acceptance" threads from last cycle you can get a general idea of where you'll be at.

The more I see, the more I realize how people of even similar stats get drastically different outcomes for their interviews/acceptances.

I've seen someone with 24 DAT, 3.2 gpa apply to 18 schools, and get 2 interviews and waitlisted at both.
Also someone with almost identical stats applied to 12 schools and interviewed at 10 of them and got accepted into 8.

It's literally all over the place.. even if I had 3.8 gpa and 25 DAT I don't think I'd apply to any less than like 12 schools.
