How many interviews you get with <3.6GPA

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Amen to #5

1. cGPA: 3.5; sGPA: 3.1
2. MCAT: 37
3. ~23
4. 2 interviews, 2 wait lists
5. Tips: Apply early, broadly, etc.

37 MCAT and 2 interviews? Wow. Then you go a couple posts down and there is a 27 with 9 interviews and 2 acceptances. Crazy world out there. Good to know scores don't always mean everything though.

This thread gives me alot of hope. Hopefully I can come and post here with good news in 6 months.

1. 3.54 cGPA, 3.54 sGPA. Biology major at a top 40 university.
2. 37 (11/12/14)
3. 25 MD schools
4. 6 interviews (so far, I'm still in the application cycle). No acceptances yet, but it's just September, and I had my first interview on 9/4.
5. GPA is big, but it isn't everything. While you may not be able to make up for a crappy freshman year in terms of GPA, you can work on your MCAT heavily and do a lot of EC's. Also talk to professors so you get good letters of recommendation. Do these things and a middling (for med schools anyway, a 3.5 is nothing to scoff at) GPA can be overcome.

So there's hope! Thus thread makes me feel so much better.

1. Your GPA: 3.57 cgpa, 3.51 sgpa (from a top 3 school)

2. Your MCAT score: 35 (12 PS, 12 VR, 11 BS)

3. How many schools you applied to: 21

4. How many interviews and acceptances you received: Still in the cycle. So far I have invites to:
Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UT San Antonio, Baylor, Emory, and USC

5. And any tips for the rest of us. I think my school my help offset my crap gpas.

1. cGPA: 3.5 sGPA: 3.3
2. 29 MCAT
3. ~25 MD
4. 6 Interviews
5. Apply early and broadly, focus on content and not character limit on secondaries, know your strengths, turn your weaknesses into strengths, and make sure to convey your passion for medicine in everything that you write.

GPA: 3.4ish for both
MCAT 29
Mixed Hispanic

Finished secondaries around now

Currently have 1 MD II and 3 DO II and 1 DO acceptance. Applied to ~30 schools.
9 MD interviews, 3 MD Acceptances, 3 DO acceptances

Anything is possible 😉

Despite SDN's recommendation of applying first day, my apps weren't verified until ~Late July and I couldn't be happier about my 1 MD II (its also relatively early in September).

If you have a good story like me, apply. I'm not an URM hispanic and I still feel confident about the cycle.

Two II so far 😀 , but at the lower end of my list of schools (I was complete relatively late around late-Aug to most schools however)

There's still hope!

1. 3.5
2. 31
3. 3 II
4. 3 Waitlists

I applied last year mostly to east coast schools, ignoring the midwest. I'm a CA resident so things were against my favor, and for those who noticed, last year was terrible for anyone on a waitlist. Literally no one got in Temple from the waitlist last year, and when I called the director of admissions she said it was the first time in 10 years that had happened. I really, really hope that this isn't a sign of a new trend. I hope that it was just a fluke. She refused to tell me about the discussion about my application, but she looked at it and told me what things to improve on. One major mistake I made was not doing enough stuff during my application year. For those of you who aren't doing community service + some kind of clinical experience during the year, I strongly advise you to start doing something. I also think I may be a weak interviewer, but it's really hard to tell when all of them refuse to give you feedback. Ah well. I'll update this thread once the season is over.

1. Your GPA: 3.45

2. Your MCAT score: 31

3. How many schools you applied to: 22

4. How many interviews and acceptances you received: 16 II, attended 11, 7 acceptances, 3 wl.

5. And any tips for the rest of us: Apply as early as possible. Many applicants don't fully understand the importance of the fact that medical schools operate on a rolling basis of admissions. I submitted my primary application on day one when AMCAS opened, it took me 3 days to be verified. Some of my friends submitted a few days later, and it took them weeks to be verified. I also submitted my secondaries within 1-2 days of receiving them. I have no doubt that this is the primary reason why I've been successful this cycle.

I know a ton of people on SDN are ridiculously smart but I wanted to make a thread for us normal kind to give us hope before we (re)apply.

I have a few questions for those who had GPAs lower than a 3.65:

1. Your GPA

2. Your MCAT score

3. How many schools you applied to

4. How many interviews and acceptances you received

5. And any tips for the rest of us

Thank you future doctors 😍

1. 3.54 total cumulative (undergrad + post-bacc averaged together)

2. 39 MCAT

3. 20 schools

4. 8 interview invitations, 3 interviews attended, 2 acceptances, 1 decision pending (find out in mid-Feb)

5. If you can put 4+ semesters of great grades between the old and new you and keep your cumulative >3.4, many schools look far beyond your past mistakes.

1) 3.58 cGPA and sGPA
2) 34
3) 6 MD, 1 DO (only California schools...crazy I know, borderline stupid)
4) 1 DO acceptance, 2 MD interviews (haven't attended them yet)
5) Tips: I'm not URM, so I think what got me those interviews were a combo of my secondary responses and my ECs.

This thread is giving me some hope! I hope I can be posting in a thread like this next year.
See my MDApps. Applied to 20 schools, invited to interview at 11, attended 9 and 5 acceptances so far.

Applied fairly early and had a theme that ran through my entire application and secondaries. Although I'm international, I'm also URM, so maybe that helped. I also think my MCAT helped make up for the low sGPA. My advice would be to apply early, show maturity and passion and be genuine in your ECs , application and interviews.

1) Under 3.2 GPA
2) Over 35 MCAT
3) 30 md
4) 6 md II, 2 attended, acceptance to top choice other pending, withdrawing 4 interview invites and declining future IIs
5) Protip: apply day 1, get good clinical experience, get good letters

1) 3.5 cGPA, 3.53 sGPA
2) 35 MCAT
3)Applied to 28, filled out secondaries for 23 (IIRC)
4) 6 MD II, 2 DO II, so far accepted to 1 MD, waitlisted at 4 MD, 1 MD decision pending. I withdrew from the DO interviews.
5) Tip: The thing that seemed to get me a lot of interviews were my secondary responses. I was fairly specific with what direction I wanted to take my future career in and where my interests in the field lie. Most of the schools I interviewed at had quite a few similarities in their mission and what kind of applicant they were looking for. Also, apply early. My friend applied last year with virtually identical stats, but didn't start doing secondaries until late September. They got 5 interviews, waitlisted at all of them, and then accepted into their state school in June.

Another friend of mine basically shot themselves in the foot by submitting their AMCAS late as well this cycle, and thus far only has one interview. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to get your AMCAS and secondaries in early. You don't want to be in a position where you have an otherwise strong application but end up with nowhere to go because you applied way after everyone else and classes have already filled up.

1) 3.19 cGPA 3.25 sGPA
2) 36
3) 30 md
4) 5 md II, 2 attended, acceptance to top choice other pending, withdrawing 3 interview invites and declining future IIs
5) Protip: apply day 1, get good clinical experience, get good letters

You give me great hope.
