How many interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i've heard all sorts of things like you need just 3 and you'll probably get in somewhere. However, this all doesnt matter if you only get one interview and one acceptance.

If you have above average stats, I think about 3-5 sounds right. 7-10 just to be on the safe side.

If I had an interview at every school I sent a secondary to... I might start to get cocky.

Difficult question.

There are some people on SDN who say they inverviewed at only one school and got in. There are others who have interviewed at 10+ and did not get into any immediately. I would estimate that with 4 to 8 interviews you would have a very good chance of getting into at least one school.

Good luck.

Yeah, it really depends on the interviewee. I know some that have interviewed at 5 places and waitlisted at 5, later to be rejected. Then there are the allstar interviewers that everywhere they interview they get accepted, because they know how to do well during each interview (show real interest in the school, well spoken, etc). I really believe that once you have an interview, your stats don't matter anymore. Every school looks for different things, you have to be able to gauge that and use it to your advantage. Stats just get your foot in the door. Good luck!

Hm

say on average about 35% acceptance rate post interview (although many are higher)

(1-.35)^(# of interviews) = chance of being rejected from all where you interview

So whatever percentatage you feel comfortable.

I know there are many other factors 😛

I've had 8 and don't have an acceptance yet. If I have to do this again, I'm going to shoot for 20.

All you need is 1 good one. I have a friend who interviewed at 13 schools...all waitlists and rejections. You never know....could be lucky with one...could be unlucky with 13.

This is great . . . and your username is ti89. So fitting. I love it 🙂

I'd say you need 2 interviews, assuming you interview well and not at top 10 schools.

I went to four and got accepted at 2, waitlisted at 2 others. I have no idea if thats normal or not, but that's how it was for me. If you're a good interviewee, then you probably only need three to be sure to get one (not based on anything other than my own thoughts). If you're aren't so good, well, you'll probably need more to get assured, though it's never assured until you get that letter. How's that for a lot of words and no real answer?

What's a good number of interviews to have to feel confident you'll get in?

My premed advisor told me that in her experience students who were invited for at least three interviews were accepted somewhere. You can also look at the type of schools you're getting interviews from, e.g. when interviewing at Emory they told us that most everyone they invite for an interview ends up getting in somewhere. I dunno where they got that data from - they basically told us that to get us to stop stressing.

One was good enough for me.
