How many letters of rec to send?

Hi everyone,

this is my first post! i have been sdn-devirginized.

anyways, i was wondering about extra letters of rec. other than the ones that med schools require. for example, hopkins want two letters of rec from faculty or from pre-med advisor, but what about extra letters of rec, ie from non-science and research? do we send them in to med schools along with secondaries and the require letter of recs? or send them after interviews, being put on the waiting list, etc.?

the freqent permutations are:
- 2 science, 1 academic non science
- 2 science, 1 non academic
- 1 science, 1 academic non science, 1 non academic

most schools will let you send up to 5 but not more. some schools will not read more than 3.
