I have four: 2 science, one non-science, one volunteer experience. Seemed to be enough for the process.

great, thank you. is there any benefit in getting more? do the schools see all of them, or request only a certain number?

also, sorry for all the questioning, but do you think it's rude, or uncommon to ask for more than one from a teacher?
(i want to apply for a 3 month fellowship also!!)

Nope -- it's not rude or uncommon. Just make sure you give the teacher plenty of time to write the letter. He/she may be able to use bits and pieces of the original letter in the last two. Some sort of thank you trinket would be appreciated, I'm sure, or even just a "Thank you!" card.

2 science, 1 non-science, 1 from shadowing a physician, 1 from research. That should do it.

Volunteering rec? You should try to get one from a physician. Otherwise, get a shadowing recommendation letter.
