OK ladies and gents. I've looked in other threads but haven't gotten a clear enough answer.
My question: Do I have too many letters of recommendation?
My background: Currently an active Paramedic
My letters and their reasons:
Science professor - satisfy minimum requirements
Science and Research professor - satisfy minimum requirements
Humanities professor - satisfy minimum requirements
2 Doctors - Satisfies clinical needs of some schools
Medical Director for my Agency - this is for my relevant work experience
Volunteer coordinator - strong letter and this is an agency I have volunteered with for more than a decade.
Personal letter - I assisted with an in-flight emergency and the husband of the patient wrote a letter for me (He's the editor of a medical journal so I think that helps quite a bit.)

OK that's all of them. It makes 8 total. Medical apps are such a tricky thing that before I send these off today or tomorrow I would really appreciate some feedback!

Thanks in advance!

You could never have too many! Many schools will have a requirement of LORS so call and ask schools which you receive secondaries from if they accept additional ones. If they do, add LORs which you feel confident the letter will best represent you in such a way that resonates with the mission and core values of each school. Hope that helps!

Thanks. I hadn't thought about checking the secondaries. I'll do that first thing tomorrow before sending. That would be better than just shotgunning them with 8 right off the bat!

I checked all the websites that I am applying to but unfortunately they really don't give too much in the way of LOR's and what they would like or even not like.

I wouldn't go past 6... doubt adcoms will read more than that into detail and a school told me that there is a point of saturation.

Go ahead and search "AACOMAS CIB" online. That has a run down of all the schools and their respected LOR requirements.

Once you receive a secondary invitation complete it then call the school and ask them what the maximum is for LOR letters.

Glad to help!

I agree most definitely, more than 5-6 can be a hassle to AdComs and may do more harm than good in the fact that you may have many letters but some of those letters may not be of the same caliber. ("Filler" LOR's to simply try and impress the AdComs)
