How many LoRs should I get?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got one from my pharmacist, my religous studies professor, my anantomy/phys prof, and my school advisor. They recommended 3 LOR but i choosed four. it shouldent hurt but dont do to much. Remember they have alot of applications to go through.

The schools you apply to should have listed their criteria about LORs. It depends from school to school, but generally you have one from a pharmacists, and another from a professor with whom you took a class (at the very minimum). Some schools may allow you the option of more than 2, and can say a supervisor or someone can write it.

But aren't they just submitted to PharmCAS? So what if a school has a maximum of 2 but I have already submitted 3?

Not sure what they do in that case, if the school only takes 2 LORs and you submit up to 4 via PharmCAS. You can email them and ask? It might be the first two that they take. Worth looking into

I had one from my pre-health advisor/professor, one from a professor I did research with, and one from my organic 2/medicinal chem/biochem professor. I didn't start working at a pharmacy until this semester so I had none from pharmacists.

Three is generally the standard. I would recommend at least one from a pharmacist and one from a science professor.

Do you know how long these last on PharmCAS? Say I don't get accepted to a school and I want to re-apply next year, do I have to get brand new LoRs, keep them, or delete them?

I found the following on the pharmcas faq (https://portal.pharmcas.org/applicants2013/faq/pcas_reapplying.shtml) It's from 2013 judging from the url but I assume it's current.
  • Q: What information will NOT be carried over?
A: Letters of recommendation, personal essay, payments, PCAT scores and transcripts containing updated coursework will NOT be carried over and must be resubmitted. In addition, there are fields on the PharmCAS application which have changed or been added since last cycle which will NOT be filled in by the import. Applicants will have to go over ALL sections of the application and ensure these new sections are filled in, as it will not necessarily be readily apparent from your application checklist that something is missing if the field is not required.
