how many LORS can we submit? Is it only 4? if so would it be ok to get 2 or 3 from EPs and 1 from a core rotation like FP....? or do most programs like variety..?

I think its fine to get 2 from different faculty at the same hospital. One thing that's important to remember is that you will need a letter from wherever you do an externship as well. I know many people who used all EM faculty for their letters and are having no problems with interviews. I think its just important that you get people who will write you a good letter. I personally used 2 EM letters and 1 psych.

One from a Pulmonologist (community)
One from a EM Attending and One from a Trauma Surgeon at Sessamoid's old shack. It was a community ED.

you can get 2 from the same place as long as they are different in substance.

for instance, if both are going to be compiled, CORD letters than it probably wouldn't be that helpful. but if you have 2 faculty that worked multiple shifts with you and can write good recs, then i would.

I had 2 EP's (one from my medical school which does not have an EM residency and one from my externship) and one from IM.

Ask your school if they will allow you to double up on the letters of recommendation. The dean's secretaries at my school will scan in two letters for every slot if you ask nicely.

I got three EM letters, two from my home school and one from an externship. I also got a letter from the chair of medicine. (I think it carried a lot of weight too.)

it's been several years so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

when you do an er rotation at an academic place, you likely only work with each attending once or twice. you usually give them a slip that they rate you on and turn in. at the end of the rotation, the 4th year EM clerkship coordinator compiles the evals and writes a CORD/SLOR letter. It involves a more standardized approach. For instance.

top 5%, 5-10, 10-25, 50%, or less than 50%.

(simplified).

Anyhow, then they add the comments below. Sort of like a dean's letter. I think one of your three letters has to be or at least is highly recommended to be a SLOR letter.

So the terms are CORD (Council of Emergeny Medicine Residency Directors) and the SLOR (standardized letter of recommendation).

so getting back to my first post, if you rotate at X University Hospital and get two letters, both should not be SLOR/CORD letters since they would essentially say the same thing. (same boxes checked). One can be SLOR/CORD and one could be someone who worked with you extensively (that being said can be more than 2 shifts)

i think your letters seem fine except that one of them should probably be a SLOR/CORD. maybe from the rotation you are about to do?
