. . . that you're attempting to go into health care primarily for the money?

How many of you have lied through your teeth to admissions committees, spewing forth all sorts of cliched drivel about how you "care about other people" and really want to be a do-gooder?

Granted, working to reduce physical and psychological suffering in the world is a noble pursuit and all, but how many of you would still try to go through with it if you had as much of a statistical chance of "making it" as someone who might aspire to some other prestigious and "rewarding" career with a perhaps less predictable or stable career path? Who would put themselves through the gauntlet of medical school if they faced the same odds as an actor who graduates from an acting school and moves to Hollywood in search of stardom?

Or to put it another way . . . how many of you current or future post-bacc students once aspired to be artists, writers, philosophers, composers, or film makers and for whatever reason gave up on your art, took one look at the business world, shrieked out loud, ran in the other direction, and eventually had the bright idea to pursue something lucrative and stable as well as intellectually engaging--i.e. medicine?

not intellectually stimulating

I wouldn't be leaving my current career if I wanted money. If I go into primary care, I might end up making less. I would like to make money and be comfortable, but I think post-bac students tend to have a different set of priorities than the younger kids, especially if they are a little bit older.
