How many of you failed your gross anatomy class first semester?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Have you learned how to study for anatomy yet? I think thats more important...

I didn't that great on one of the practicals, got like a C/C-, but quickly adjusted to counter-act that. I would take that grade as a sign that you need to start over with studying techniques.

Or if you're like me then you need to throw the computer out the window and lock yourself in a windowless room to study.

I got a whopping 67 on my first exam. I wasn't at all prepared for how different gross is than every other course. A's and B's since then, but that first one was about a fifth of our grade. Sucks.

I got a 54 on our first practical. Oh was that a bummer! It made me mad because I did very well on all of our other first tests in our first semester classes. I sold my soul to anatomy for the rest of the semester and did much better on the rest of the exams. My study technique was just way off for that first test.

So what did you change in your study technique?

So what did you change in your study technique?
1) Bought Rohen's atlas
2) Went into the anatomy lab every weekend with a group
3) Reviewed the information thoroughly before dissecting in lab
4) Used the Netter flashcards almost every weekday morning
5) Did some sort of review of material almost every day

This was probably overkill because I'm not that devoted to any one subject anymore. However, it had to be done. I had gotten a 74 on the multiple choice test so my average started out at a 64 in that class and I needed at least a 70 to pass. Fortunately the hard work paid off and I raised my grade 64 -> 79. Some people may not be happy with a 79 but f***, it sure beats a 64. As I said in my previous post, I was really bummed out about my grade. For the rest of the semester, I was terrified about failing. But you have to be honest with yourself and evaluate your study techniques to see where changes need to be made.

If something is broke, its time to fix it. Drastic times call for drastic measures.....

You will hear both sides of the fence on what is best for studying anatomy. Some claim more time in lab, others more books/flashcards. Regardless of what you think is best for you, there needs to be more repetition.

I found that walking around to other bodies and quizzing myself and others worked the best for me, but this might not be best for you. I was fortunate in that anatomy "clicked" for me from the start, but that didn't mean my study habits couldn't be tweaked a bit as I went. Find something that works and adapt it into the perfect method.

Fixed.

Anatomy is unusual to say the least. It's a headache to figure out how to approach it and you shouldn't feel too bad...unless you're not doing your best to improve.

Anatomy...ugghh...IM SO GLAD I don't have to deal with that **** anymore...

By the way....yeah it took me a couple times to pass anatomy... I almost got kicked out of my school for failing the lab...but i finally passed somehow... so relax people

I think i got a 50 on my first test, I was so unprepared for how hard it was gonna be, but i did well from then on out. Just gotta get the switch from undergrad to med school studying.
