Let's see...
Out of everyone in my family I had an aunt go to college and she became a layer, in Manhattan.
Well, I had 2 cousins go to college.... one dropped out, one never used her degree in the work place.

So no, I guess I have a long journey ahead of me...🙁

None in immediate family, but 15 total in extended family. But that 15 is a bit over-inflated because of one family: my dad's sister is a doctor, her husband is a doctor, their three children are doctors, and two of the three children married a doctor (the last one is probably also going to marry a doctor).

PS- That extended family has been of minimal help.

Mom, grandma, and three aunts are nurses, so I married one too. My dad's a ski patroller for 10-15 days/year, and he thinks that makes him part of the medical field too.

Neither of my parents are doctors, but almost all of my relatives back in India are doctors; Both sides grandparents run their own clinic, uncle runs a pretty big hospital in a very rural part of India, other uncle has his own clinics, another uncle is a surgeon at his own hospital... the list goes on and on. It's been great because 1) Despite how shallow I am (I can't kid myself, I have very expensive taste), I can honestly say that I was never in it for the money. Many of my grandparents, aunts, uncles were not making that much money before they started their bigger practices more recently, so I was exposed to medicine at a young age and seeing them work in rural and less than fortunate areas was really an eye opening experience, especially growing up in the United States which can make you take things for granted. Also the amount of reverence and respect they had in their communities astounded me. 2) I have an endless supply of people to talk to about medicine as a field. They have all given me a ton of advice that I would not trade for the world. Of all of my one grandfather's grandkids, I am the only one pursuing medicine and it made him incredibly happy.

:nono:Well, I am not trying to get to medical school. My son is, and has been accepted at one school. I am just trying to understand what kind of gang he is trying belong. My two cousins are physicians. One of my cousin is nurse. One niece is in medical research; she had a PhD in biochem or molecularbio.
They all had no influence on my son. He was interseted in finding cure for cancer since sixth grade; he was more interested in research. He decided to go medical school while he just finished sophomore year, may be because on of his freind, who was in chem eng trac, decided to go into medical school.😛

Dad, sisters, 4 cousins, and 3 uncles are all doctors.

I'm thinking it's genetic. 😉

Or more likely, there are more familial/social pressures to pursuing a medical career...

The vast majority of my family is in engineering and business (both finance and small business).

The word 'family' is singular and therefore the following verb should agree in number (it should be is, not are), typicalfob.

In British English, collective nouns such as "family" are given verbs in the plural.
