I think that the association of medical schools brings out shows like Doogie Howser MD and Scrubs to appeal to kids and their parents so that they can get the best applicants to apply. It increases medicines popularity, and more people applying means more competition... more competition equals better med students!

And the test was less ambiguous - more calculations. My mom took it in 1985 and I showed her a practice test for this year - totally different.
