How many of you write reflective papers in school?

Glad I'm not the only one dealing with utter under-grad BS. I was very surprised to find that this stuff is rampant during clinical years here. The worst paper I've had to write thus far is a 1,000 word paper on the life story of a patient. (And yes, I'm a very understanding, caring and empathetic person and I love my patients...I don't need a paper to help me learn that better) We are actually required to sit down and interview the patient and have them tell us their life story in between seeing patients at the clinic...we are then asked to write it down and present them all in our next ethics class. I don't need to write a paper to understand how someone's disease has impacted their life, nor do my classmates. Never-mind the huge amount of time this will take away from actual learning and having a constructive experience on the wards. I'm at an allopathic program at a state school for what it's worth.

more than empathy students should learn to communicate with patients outside the h&p paradox.
Empathy alone is totally worthless.

what paradox?
