How many people have interviewed and not received a seat in the class?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends on the school. A lot of schools' websites have stats on how many applied, were interviewed, accepted, and enrolled.

It really depends on the school. I know that Ohio interviewed approximately 450 people, and over half of them were OOS. They have 100 in state spots and 40 OOS spots. But that's just Ohio, I personally don't have numbers for any of the other schools.

Most school websites don't show the # of offers it took to fill their class. K-state does....here is the data for class of 2012. The OOS seats are the wild card for every school. As you can see, Kansas interviewed 248 and went through 174 offers to get 54 accepted. Based on the numbers, it would appear there is a fair amount of overlap between schools as to the individuals they are interviewing. There are stories of other schools going through their entire OOS interview pool without filling the OOS seats....eventually offering OOS seats to some that originally received rejected notices. Just depends on the year and the applicant pool.
Class of 2012 Applicant Pool Statistics Applicant Pool Applicants Interviewed Applicants Offered Positions Accepted Positions Kansas 156 141 48 46 North Dakota 19 18 6 5 New Mexico 12 8 4 3 Non-resident 920 248 174 54 Totals 1107 415 232 108

Last year, Florida interviewed some applicants that had been rejected, and Cornell accepted some students that had interviewed and been rejected. It's strange, but uncommon. Or, I'd imagine it's uncommon. Heh.

I interviewed with OKstate last year and was not accepted...

I interviewed last year and the year before at VMRCVM. I haven't been accepted yet (though there are good reasons for that.) This is my third year, third interview. I'm hoping I've improved enough to make it.

I interviewed at A&M last year and was rejected. I was interviewed this year as well and will hopefully not be rejected lol.

226 in-state people were interviewed at A&M, only 110 or so are accepted IIRC. So, 50/50 chance I guess you could look at it as lol.

I was rejected for a couple of reasons. My GPA is not very high (around a 3.2), though it's balanced by my GRE scores which are good.

The first time I applied, I had almost all shelter experience and little else. I mean, seriously, it's all I'd done. I had a lot of it, but no diversity. I was told specifically after the first year to get more varied experience and, for various reasons, I didn't. I went in with an application that only had a few hours more animal experience, a few hours of different vet experience, and hundreds more hours of shelter experience. I just didn't really improve. I've worked hard this year to fix that, and I'm really hoping it'll help push me past the interview.

Ah I see. Well I hope we are both successful this year!

I interviewed at UCD last year and was rejected. 😀

I've done this too.
I agree with the posters who said that it depends on the school, and whether you're IS or OOS. Basically, an interview means that all they've done is stuck your application on the wall. No one's thrown any darts yet. 🙄

That is, of course, unless they're using the stair method. 😉

Rejected after Tufts interview last year. This year remains to be seen....😳

Was interviewed at Illinois and waitlisted, which is the kiss of death for an IS student applying to Illinois.

interviews are something to be excited about, so celebrate it! at least we all made it the first round, right? and they are interested in us.

ahh, if only i can tell myself this more often. EKKKS! :scared:

I agree mstweetie. At least you know you've come close and that you do qualify.

I want to mention that two years ago LSU called back two Arkansas residents (they allow 9 per class) who they had initially rejected and offered them positions. (I met one of them and he seemed to be succeeding in school) This of course means that they blew through their entire alt list. But also I was on the alt list for LSU last year and did not end up with an offer. (Found out I was about one-person-dropping away)

Ultimately if you're a strong candidate, you just never know.

I interviewed and made the Tufts waitlist last year, but didn't even get an interview this year.
I interviewed at Western last year and was rejected. I think both Western and Tufts interview between 200 & 300 people (approx. half the applicant pool) for class sizes of 80-100. Awesome odds.
I'm interviewing at Western again this year, but my hope ain't too high.

Catnapper why are your hopes not too high for western even though you say its awsome odds? I am interviewing there Feb 6 I believe. Did they give you interview feedback?

Oh and just for the sake of the post I was just rejected from Ohio ( I called) OOS after interviewing. I still have Kansas, Western and RVC to go....

I believe there was some sarcasm involved with the "awesome odds" comment.

I'm afraid VAgirl's right...sorry to mislead! And on the Western interview, I have no idea what they want--what the magic words are. I've actually thought about going blonde before the interview--to look younger & peppier than I actually am! I'm blind in my left eye--so it wanders. Yes, I'm one of those annoying people who's eye throws you--you don't know which one to look at. Which, of course, really bodes well for me at interview time! I thought maybe some snappy, blonde tresses would make up for the creepy eye factor! 😉 <--literally!

To warn you, on the RVC interview: they asked me what my favorite class was. I assumed they wanted to hear something in the science category, so I said "physiology." Then I got a physiology quiz. Some other poor girl's answer was "biochemistry." Mistake. If this happens to you, I suggest you say your favorite class is something like "Art History" and see what happens! 😀

Im a dope, I just got done interviewing at Ohio where they interview about 200 applicants for 40 spots, so I think Westerns Odds DO sound good to me 🙂 . Ah well, I have no high hopes ...except for when I do...then they get put back in their place!

Ohio I thought interviewed roughly half the applicants which would put it more like 350 applicants for 37? out of state spots.

Hey do you know anymore about how LSU works? I got put on the alternate list this year and I really thought I was going to get an interview. It seemed to me in their email they sent out, that interviewing OOS applicants was not really normal for them, is this true? When do they usually start going down their alternate list?
