Hi all:
I'm a 4th year med student who is new here with a big question:
How many Family Medicine programs do I need to interview at? I had originally set up 15 interviews.

Thus far I've interviewed at 7--
University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI)
MSU/Sparrow (East Lansing, MI)
Columbia-St. Mary's (MIlwaukee, WI)
St. Luke's (Milwaukee, WI)
St. Michael's (Milwaukee, WI)
Waukesha (Waukesha, WI)
Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN)
My top choices are the three in Milwaukee. I have a few coming up in Chicago, but I am wondering if they are necessary.

Can anyone help me? Any advice out there?
THANKS!!

The best person to answer this question is someone in the FM department at your school.

The answer to this depends a lot on how strong of an applicant you are. FP is probably the least competitive specialty to get into, so you shouldn't need a long ROL. 15 sounds like too many to me.

Last year, I interviewed at 5 programs, ranked 4, and got my first choice in the match. My advice would be to interview at those programs that you would really like to be a resident (probably not all 15), and then after that, see how you feel. It's probably really hard to be at the top of your game after several interviews in a row, especially if you are not really excited about them. If you are a good candidate, I don't think you would have much difficulty getting one of your top choices. Good luck!!!

15 sounds like way too many interviews for any specialty except maybe orthopedics or radiology.
