How many prelim programs will you apply to?

Are most of you applying to the same hospitals where you applied for PGY-2 positions? Or are you mainly staying around the area where you did your clinical rotations?

I'm trying to stay close to wherever I match. It would be such a nightmare to have to do it any other way... I hope I match into a program with a guaranteed PGY-1 year. Either that, or secure a prelim year at my home program, and just live where I live now.

does anyone know if programs give you time to find a place/move(i.e. like a week or so) between prelim and pgy-2 if you have to? i kinda like the idea of checking out a new place just for a year, but I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be...
