I have seen quite a few people advised that they can just retake all their bad grades to fluff up their GPA for osteopathic schools.

This raised a question for me.

Can someone take a class over and over until he gets the grade he wants for DO GPA calculations?

That seems silly to me, but I have seen people who have taken a class twice already and done horribly both times advised to take it again to replace the bad grades.

At my undergrad, you get two bites at the apple and that is it. The second grade is the permanent grade even if it is lower.

For DO applications you could in theory retake as many course, as many times as you wish.

Yeah. Although I assume it's like retaking the MCAT....more than 3 times and it raises some eyebrows.

I'd guess the first retake would raise a brow and the second, a blazing red flag.

Depends on the applicant. For nontrads who bombed their freshman year while boozing and sexing but then got their act together and got good grades a decade later I don't think it will look that bad.

I retook the core of my science classes, because I was taking most of them at the same time, and my sister had just been diagnosed with cancer. But at my school, you are only allowed to take a class twice and the second grade you receive is what counts, higher or lower. I am applying this year so I'm hoping the application cycle is nice to me 🙂
