I am about to submit my application and have about 10 schools I'm thinking of applying to. Out of curiosity, how many schools are you guys/gals applying to?

Only 1 for me. But u should apply to more than 5. I have a strong application and high GPA except my PCAT score. I thought the school would give me an interview but no. So apply to more and get more chance.

7 initially then decided to add one more..

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered retaking the PCAT? I originally was going to apply to only 5 schools, but then my stats aren't that great, so I added 5 more for good measures. I figured if I don't get any interviews with 10 schools, then adding another 10 or 20 schools wouldn't do me any good but waste money. Anyway, good luck, JuT! 🙂

I applied to 14 and I regret it. In retrospect, 5-7 seems to be a good number

My list initially contained 14 schools but after narrowing down the list, I ended up applying to 5 schools.

Thanks 🙂 and yes i'll be retaking it again on Oct. I'm still worries that I wont do well the next round bc I have full time school and work. But yea don't add more than 10. Wait til u submit ur application, if u don't hear anything from them then apply to more. That way u could save ur money. Good luck!

jkim2421: Have you gotten interview invites to many of those schools? 5 to 7 schools seem to be good numbers, but I guess it depends on your stats. My stats aren't too good, so I'm paranoid. 😀

FelixRx: I originally had a list of 20+ schools, but then I whittled it down to 10 that I really see myself going to. Have you heard back from all 5 schools?

JuT: Ya. I'm not putting in for more than 10 schools, because I got bills to pay as well. 😀 I know how tough it is to work, go to school, and then study for PCAT all at the same time. However, it's actually doable if you manage your time wisely. Good luck with your studies.

Lisinopril, go troll elsewhere! I know you're already a pharmacist. 🙂 (to the uninitiated: he voted 21+ even though he's not applying this cycle)

Yes, so far I have received two interviews. I think being prepared and applying early was what helped me.

Congrats!! Good luck with your interviews! 🙂

Thank you and it is not too late in the application period so Im sure you will hear back from a couple of those school. Good luck 👍

I applied to 23... in fear that I wouldn't get interviewed anywhere..

Probably not going to finish 6-7 supplementals, and still feel as if that was too many. Did not account the costs of traveling and deposits initially...

~10 is a good number, if you are scared!

FelixRx: Thanks for the encouragement, Felix! 🙂 I will update in the underdog thread if I hear anything.

Btw, seeing that you have a Napoleon Hill quote in your signature, have you read his book? If you have and you enjoyed it, I also recommend Dr. Thomas J. Stanley's series of books. In fact, Dr. Stanley made reference to Napoleon Hill in one of his books, that's how I came to know about him.

cubpanda: I guess you're even more paranoid than me. 😀 I'm glad that things turned out well for you, but then again, you have really stellar stats.

Ya, I only have 3 or 4 schools that I really want to go to, so if I get into any of those, I'll just cancel the rest... No point wasting time and money traveling, interviewing, and doing supplementals for schools that I might not go to. Anyway, I hope my decision to apply to 10 schools is a prescient one... Time will tell.

OH! But if you are ready to submit now... I would only apply to the 4-5 and see if you hear back from them! Maybe 1-2 backup schools. You can always apply to "more" along the way! Especially since you are ahead of the normal Dec - Jan crowd... That way you can save the money!

(I wish I kept this in mind... instead of listening to my paranoia :C) Those $55 tack-ons add up when they are 4+ schools you end up not submitting supplemental app for .__.

I was thinking that as well... But I'm really afraid that I won't get any interview invites and end up not getting in anywhere. Maybe I'll whittle it down to 6-7 schools and then add on more a bit later. Thanks for the advice! You probably just saved me a couple hundred bucks! 🙂

I shouldve applied less than 6. if you carefully look at school enrollment statistic avalablr in AACP, u will see what your chances are (especially for. OOS applicants... texan schools are far more discriminating against OOS applicants).

pharmdx92: Ya, 5 or 6 sounds like a good amount to start off, then apply to schools with later deadlines if you don't hear anything back. Btw, did you change your handle? 😀

kaidou1412: Ya, the acceptance rates for OOS students are unfairly low for Texas schools. 🙁 I'm thinking of putting in for Texas Tech because they have grades replacement, but I'm not even sure if it's worth my chance.

Yea I'm planning on applying to at least 3-4 schools this time around. Not making the same mistake like last year where I only applied to only one school because I thought my application was good enough. After strengthening my application and some prepping I'm confident I'll get in this time around though. I would say an 60-70% improvement.

Basically I have 1 top school that is close to home that I really really want to get in. And 1 school that I know 80% sure I'll get in as long as I have a decent interview. And possibly 2 more OOS that I match/exceed the averages and might get in.

Sorry to hear that... I wish you better luck this time around. From what you said, it seems like you're much more prepared this time around and should have a good chance. Sometimes, being a bit paranoid is probably a good thing... Good luck! 🙂

I applied to 12 after whittling it down from 20. I added on some 3-year programs at the last minute. Probably should have cut it down to 7-8 because these supplementals are killing me.

I am applying to 12 and I plan to finish all supplementals. My husband and I are both applying so we are going to whatever school admitts both of us

wow. That sounds tough! If you both apply to 12 schools you guys are going to get admitted somewhere, but getting in to the same school sounds really difficult! Good luck anyways!
👍

Originally had about 20, but narrowed it down to 10.

Oh yes, I am quite familiar with Napoleon Hills work. Think and Grow Rich is a life changing book. That should be a school assignment before entering college.

As for Dr Stanley, I did read The Millionaire next door a couple of years ago. Not much else after that.

pharmarathoner: Ya, those supplementals are time consuming. Some require a passport photo... It makes me wonder whether I'm applying to a modeling agency or a pharmacy school. 😀

cuddlefish78: That's really sweet! Best of luck to the two of you! 🙂 I'm guessing you guys don't have kids yet?

FelixRx: I agree. Schools don't teach you a lot of things that are highly beneficial in real life, but I guess that's what some books are for.

The Millionaire Next Door was his mega best-seller, but I also enjoy his other works as well. I recently read Stop Acting Rich, and it certainly made me rethink my spending habits. I highly recommend it if you liked his other book. 🙂

It's my first time applying and I feel pretty good applying to pretty much all the schools in Texas, where I'm from. I applied to one out-of-state (Arkansas). So that's a total of 6 schools I'm applying to. I couldn't apply to TSU because they didn't accept a number of my classes and I'd still need to take Pre-Calc (despite already taking Differential and Integral Calculus), Computer Science, and Medical Terminology, which is quite a lot.

So far, I've received 2 interview invites (UNT & Harding), which I'm really happy about! I'll probably find out whether I get accepted in the next couple months. If I get no more interview invites or if I don't get in, I'll apply to a few more schools that have later deadlines. I think this is a reasonable plan.

Still waiting to possibly hear from my top choice later on.. I've heard so many great things about Texas Tech!

Congrats, TigerPharm! 🙂 I put my application in for Texas Tech as well, but I don't expect to hear back from them, as they accept very few OOS applicants. Eh, it's worth a shot... 😀

GOODLUCK!!!!! I hope you two get in together :luck::luck:

Applied to 1 and was accepted a few weeks ago. I did apply early decision and it feels great to not be stressing anymore!

Congrats! 🙂 No kidding about the stressing out part. All this waiting is gut-wrenching, to say the least. 😀

I don't know if that guy is here..but I just saw one guy applying 52 schools today... sorry but I couldn't stop closing my mouth at that moment...I was just like 😱 for 1 minute. anyways, good luck to you..if you see this!

Do not apply to more than 5 schools!!! Unless you have stats that are rock bottom seriously dont do it! It is just a waste of money and you will probably get in anyway by applying to like 5 or less even.

I applied to 3 originally when i submitted my pharmCAS application. then i asked them if you could apply to more after you've submitted your pharmCAS application because i didn't think you could, and you can! so i added 5 more schools. its only $55 per school that you add. before supplemental applications that is... good luck!

I applied to 10 schools because I don't consider myself a strong candidate but I wouldn't suggest anyone else doing the same. I would recommend getting a rough idea of the cost of attendance for each school you plan to apply to as that could help you narrow it down. Some of my schools went further down my priority list when I I researched the COA because I'm less excited about taking over $300,000 in loans.
