How many schools are you still waiting to hear back from?

I have heard absolutely nothing from 8 schools. Is this normal? I've sent updates a few months ago to the schools that accept them. 4 of these schools are in my state of residence (Illinois). Why don't they just reject already, since I've heard a lot of these schools are done sending II?

I applied to 24 school and haven't heard from 10 or more. It is part of the process. Some school will never send you a rejection. You will know you are rejected when students matriculate in the summer.

I think the MDPhD process is much better. Applied to 24, heard back from all of them (except one but that is a silent rejection because all their interview dates were over months ago. yes it's that school in boston.)

It happens in academia as well. In the same year I interviewed for my current job, I also interviewed for an Assistant Prof job at one of the Cal States. I have yet to hear from them!

Sorry fellow IL resident but nearly all IL schools are essentially done by March 1st.

NU - done
U of C - done
UIC - will be done (they are finishing earlier this year)
Rush - will be done
Loyola - done
SIU - will be done

The only school who will continue to interview into March is RFUMS.
