Currently doing the UNC supplemental and they're asking how many other dental schools I applied to and I'm wondering if it makes a difference if I put down all 12 other schools or should I put a few less. Will it hurt the application if I have that many other schools listed?

Novel idea here: Why don't you put down the number of schools you actually applied to?

About that... will it hurt my application having that many other schools I applied to?

I'm not sure. What do you think UNC's stance on lying is?

Lie and get caught? Not good.

Yes you made your point: be honest and put down all the schools (which should have been completely obvious from the start). But my main question is will it hurt the application having that many other dental schools down?

I'm being sassy in order to steer you in the direction that I hope you come to realize is the right one. Beware of trolls that are straight up just screwing with you.

12 schools is a totally reasonable number. 🙂

Thanks to both of you. Just trying to play the "Game of Dental Applications" as best as possible

More schools sounds better in my opinion, it shows you are serious about becoming a dentist. Just make sure to have good reasons for wanting to attend that particular school when it comes up in the interview

Nah, not necessarily! I'd say that anywhere from 2-20 schools wouldn't raise any eyebrows. Applying to just one might seem rash, whereas more than 20 might seem desperate or like you haven't put careful consideration into your choices. (Not every school is a good fit, haha!)

I only applied to 5 and it was never viewed in a negative light, at least to my knowledge. 🙂 If you are serious about becoming a dentist, one of the best ways to demonstrate that is to put in the time and effort to develop a stellar application... which would thereby allow you to be pickier with your school selections. Ya know? 😉

I saw the thread title and HAD to come in here to see the pitchforks and torches. Was not disappointed.

But applying to dental schools is alot like selling yourself. I dont remember lying being a sales tactic.

Regardless of how many schools you actually applied to, you should always put down atleast 50 like a previous poster said. A lot of schools these days look at the number of schools you apply to as a token of your willingness.
