did each of you apply to? Just curious. My bro who applied last year applied to 24 I believe (ranging through all tiers).

I know its super expensive so I was wondering how you all did in that respect. I'd probably go for ~25 myself and make them all within 3-4 states so that i could save $ on interviews by flying to a similar area haha.

Around 30. All over, including most of the California schools (I went to a UC).

15.

I think the average for accepted students is somewhere around 12?

36: 30 MD and 6 DO. It cost a ****load of money, and I'm not even done going through the process yet. :-\ I applied to schools in 17 states, and of course the first 6 interviews I have are all out of state, at some of the farthest places I applied (I'm in MI, interviews in FL, AZ, LA, MO, IA, and IL). I just try to look at this as an investment in my future. Yeah, all these expenses are killing my bank account, but it will hopefully pay off in the future.

how much did you throw down for all of that (rough estimate) if you dont mind sharing? sounds pretty expensive. Yeah thats what i was thinking - if you dont apply to pretty much all over, you may never find the perfect school for you IMO...but then again its also the "i dont care where i go as long as i get in" that makes sense too haha

I don't have an exact number, but I'll see what I can remember. $1030 for AMCAS, $340ish for AACOMAS, 33 secondaries at approximately $75 a piece... works out to be almost $4000. But that doesn't include outliers (a few apps were $50 or $125), travel to and from interviews, and another $330 to mail my LORs.

AMCAS charges $120 and $30 for each additional school. Secondary fees range from $100 to $65, average probably about $90.

I'm only applying to 2 schools. I'm just applying to the schools in my state since I want to practice here anyway. I usually reply to these posts just so someone applying to <20 schools doesn't feel so bad. I also have an older brother only applying to 4 schools this cycle, and he's already had one interview. We'll see if either of us get accepted...

That's pretty neat that you and your brother are applying at the same time. Think how awesome it would be to your family and friends if you both got accepted this year (or even to the same school)!

True, that would be badass. Mind if I ask why so few school? Are you really sure you'll get in at one or both places with your stats or you're uncertain about medicine and are just giving it a try?

Too many but what is 5k to spend now compared to 50k a year for 4 years. In the scheme of things its nothing. Also, my mom works for jetblue, so, I get free flights to all my interviews and I don't plan on spending much for accomadations

In state is my best chance with the stats I have. I went to the top college in my state (a liberal arts school) and the in state schools give the most consideration for this. I could get an MS to proove my academic dedication (which my bro did and I will do if not accepted this year), but IS is my best shot for getting in this year. I really want to work/live in this state, so training here makes the most sense. I have better undergrad grades than my bro, so we'll see if it works out. Fingers crossed....

BTW, it would be phenomenal if my bro and I got accepted at the same school. I mean, we did the same HS, undergrad, fraternity, so we'd live together too. The fierce competition would probably mean we'd quiz each other in our sleeep!

32? but i'm considering not submitting a few secondaries

You do know that where you go for residency is more indicative of where you'll end up practicing, right?

Really? But i thought it was about where you went to school and the states where that particular schools graduates are allowed to practice.

1 and I already had my interview

Huh? 😕

You're talking about a traditional, allopathic med school, right? And not one of those programs where you're committed to serving in a rural area after residency, right?
