I know that a lot depends on your stats, but how many schools is a good number of schools to apply to?

I'm considering applying to 4 schools (2 instate and 2 out of state). Is this number too low?

I started with 3, then went through the list of schools. I ended up with 8 total. 4 is ok, but I would try to branch out a little with a few more.

just know that it costs a lot of money through pharmcas, supp. fees, then traveling to these places. Not to mention if you're taking classes you will probably miss those days of class and maybe the day before because they normally do interviews during the work-week.

Don't waste your time applying to schools you have no interest in going to. Even if a school is a fall back school - if you have to use the fall back, better make sure it is a school you are happy with going to.

The number people choose to apply to will vary greatly depending on your individual situation. I wouldn't use what other people say as a measure of the "right" amount.

I agree with aboveliquidice. Don't apply for schools you have 0 interest in. In 2008, I wasted some money on PHARMCAS to apply for schools that were supposed to be my fallbacks. I ended up not even submitting the supplemental applications after deciding that I wouldn't attend even if I got in.

There's quite a few people that apply to only 1 school, but I wouldn't recommend that either.

Maybe do some more research on some other potential schools to apply; if no other schools interest you, put all your effort into those 4 pharm schools

Haha I could have used your back on the last thread like this where I got yelled at for telling someone to save their money and NOT apply to 20 schools! "bla bla I'll apply to as many schools as I want u aint my dad its my money" Lol... Anyways I think between 6 and 8 is plenty. My thoughts are that if that 8th school doesn't accept you then the 9th or 10th won't either. And hypothetically if you were in that situation I think its best to see how you do then if worst comes to worst figure out what they didn't like and strengthen your application for the following year.

What's your gpa(math/science, and overal)? The higher it is, the less schools you need to apply to.. the opposite is true if you have a lower gpa..

I have a few things to say I guess...

First, I agree with a couple of the other responses...there is NO point at all in applying to schools that you have zero interest in, or realistically can't even go to if you did get accepted (too far, too expensive etc etc). Don't waste your money or time on supps. I mean, I only applied to my top school because it was the only one I realistically was going to consider going to.

That said, I think 4 or 5 is a good number to shoot for (in a ball park generality).

Have you looked at the acceptance stats for the 2005 applicants that are posted on PharmCAS?

http://www.pharmcas.org/docs/Offers04-05.pdf

Statistically, for what I would consider a reasonable # of apps (10 or less), people who put in 8 apps had the highest success rate. 35.2% of these applicants were accepted to at least one school. Followed by people who put in 5 applications at 34.6%. (I didnt check the significance of those numbers).

All that said of course...it just depends on your stats. The better the stats the less you will probably need to apply to in order to recieve an acceptance.

Good luck!!!
