How many schools are you applying to? Just curious. 😛

I hear that most medical school applicants apply to at least 10 schools, and half are denied everywhere they apply?

How confident are you that you'll get in or get in where you want? 🙄

20 right now, but all MD/PhD. Also, my MCAT scores won't come out until tomorrow night so I may end up applying to 40 schools if it's a very low score.

12. 6 in state and 6 out of state.
I'm pretty sure I'll get in SOMEWHERE but exactly where is the question

13. Also, my state doesn't have any med schools, so I'm really fighting an uphill battle...

For the last complete cycle (class of 2012) according to the AAMC students applied to an average of 13 schools

27

(added 5 more today)

its my lucky # though. pretty crazy. hopefully i dont have to apply to more.

17 schools, most of them mid tier and saftey schools, trying to research 3 more safteys but its tough.

You have to take into account %oos acceptance, but also how many people apply.

I am thinking Loyola, was thinking Drexel and NYMC but those last two have 12K applicants each, so they aren't really all that safe.

Then there is also the money aspect to consider. Applying to 17 schools runs about $2000 in primaries. Plus there is the limited # of interviews I will be able to attend, for time and financial reasons, probably no more than 10.

I will wait to hear from the schools I have applied to already, still got 5 secondaries inbound and no rejections other than 2, even from mayo, so a good sign so far.

So it really is a tough balance, apply to enough good, but safe school to gurantee you get in, but not so many that you go broke paying out secondaries and then end up with too many interviews you can't afford to go to.

By the way, 27 isn't the craziest I heard. I saw someone one here apply to 70 schools.

as of right now im applying to 16. but that number will definitely change when i get my mcat scores back aug 4. i guess it really depends how much you are willing to spend and how good your stats/chances are.

im pretty confident ill get in SOMEWHERE ... and I feel theres a pretty good chance ill get into where i want, which is UM, since im from florida and stuff. we'll see. good luck.

Well, there is only one med school in my state, Nevada. So, I am definitely aiming for this school and I absolutely love this school. Also, I am getting marreid soon, maybe even before I find out about whether I get in or not. My fiance will be staying in this city no matter what since he owns a business.

Now, my priority pick is my state school, obviously. But what if I don't get into this one and get into school that is somewhere else? Am I going to leave and go to med school? Or will I try another year for Nevada one? I think I will try next year.

Then, am I only applying to one school? The answer is, I don't know. What if I change my mind once I get accepted to different school and decide to leave.

Should I apply more places other than Nevada? I really don't know. It's a hard decision. What would you do if you were me?

10 schools. Mostly mid-tier. Maybe 1 or 2 reach.

If I didn't have a financial limit I would apply to 20.

I would apply to more, try to pick ones where it's easy to get a direct flight to from where you are. It would make things easier in a long distance relationship. I know where you're coming from, because my significant other is in the military, on the other side of the country. It stinks, but if you really love each other, you get through it. Neighboring states wouldn't be bad at all. Good luck :luck:

I was under the impression that most people apply to 20-30 schools, but perhaps that is just people from my college

That depends. You should follow this question up with another. "So are you parents paying for that?"

31 for me, 7 in state, and the rest everywhere lol

18 here. Pretty much all mid-tier schools. Only one state school here which sucks a bit but at least it is a good one.

And since the SDN average is at least 2 standard deviations higher, that should tell you what kind of people this place attracts.

For the record, I applied to 13 schools last cycle, which was more than any of my friends.

It should only cost a cool $12k or so to apply to all 168 schools 😉

17. I want to make sure I get in somewhere so I won't have to go through this process again.
