How many vet schools should I apply to?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That sounds about average to me, especially if you have a few reaches in there.

I applied to around 6.

1) Can you afford to apply to seven? Can you afford the travel costs of interviewing, the supplementals, etc.

2) If accepted to any one of those schools, would you glady attend? Are they in areas you'd be OK living in? No point in applying if you won't attend.

3) Do you like the programs? Have you done some research about each school?

4) Do you fulfill all the school's prereqs, required GPAs, etc?

If the answer is yes, to all the above, then seven is a good number.

Shockingly you are not the only person to ever ask this question. 😱

Read these threads from the last few months to start.

And next time try the search function and look through a few pages. You will find some useful stuff there. I just typed in your question in the search function and found those on the first couple of pages.

This has been discussed in other threads as well.

I have 7 in mind, but I don't know if that's too many. How many are you applying to?

As many as you can afford and have the chance to get into (and want to go to)

I never understand why older posters get so grumpy that new posters ask a question that has been asked before. This whole forum is filled with questions that have been answered 100s of times.

If you stick around long enough, you start seeing these same questions pop up and it feels like yesterday that someone just asked it. If someone posts a link to an old thread, it's not to just shut the OP up and it's not because they're grumpy (usually). It's to show them they're not the only one with that thought. Old threads are still useful so maybe there's some gem of advice buried in there that the OP might not have gotten otherwise.

Also, searching is "in" the TOS (or at least mentioned on the same page lol)... http://studentdoctor.net/online-service-agreement/

Oh, and to post on topic... I only applied to one, but that's because I wouldn't have gone anywhere else due to personal reasons. There's nothing wrong with applying to 7 and I would agree cowgirla's post 🙂

wow.. that was pretty low on my grumpiness scale.

But searching the forum is mentioned in the sticky in the welcome thread at least 3 times, is part of the TOS, and is common sense, not to mention de rigueur on forums in general.

I have asked for help on a number of topics in other places, and have always done a search through 100s of posts to find an answer. It is part of being a non-self-entitled adult who doesn't need their hand held for every little thing in life.

Now THAT is grumpy.

And also, by starting a new thread on an old topic, all the experience and advice of the many who have been through here previously gets lost.

Very little changes over the years. And the details always need to be checked at the schools etc anyway.

I dunno. Grumpy would have been posting a cranky "go use the search function."

SOV actually took more time by finding the threads himself and posting the links alongside his reminder. That's above 'n beyond.
