How many schools did everyone apply to? I applied to all of the private osteopathic medical schools, and two state schools. Would it have been smarter to apply to ALL of them, or was how I did it prudent? I guess I've been panicking lately at the possibility that the ONE school I didn't apply to might have been the only one to grant me an interview!

1)Where did you apply
2)Where did you get interviews
3)Where did you get acceptances
4)What were your stats?

I know that this stuff is on Applicant profiles, but it's just such a small sample of folks. Do you think that applying to a larger amount of schools greatly or insignificantly affects chances of interviews/admissions? Can't wait for the MCAT scores to finally...come...out!

Thanks all!

If you got a 14 on the MCAT, applying to every school in the world probably isn't going to help you anymore than applying to none 😉

More is definately better, but exactly how important it is really depends on how competitive an applicant you are.

1. UMDNJ, MSUCOM, PCOM, CCOM, DMU, COMP, plus 20 MD schools.
2. UMDNJ, DMU, COMP, Tulane, Wake Forest, NYMC, MSU CHM
3. none presently (1st interview in 10/11)
4 3.9/31

I applied to 11 schools on the first day AACOMAS allowed me.

Now I wish I did not do that (or at least I wish I did not spend so much money on supplementary application). I would recommend apply early to top 5 schools which you qualify for and which you would actually consider.

Example. after reading SDN and evaluating my options. There are 3-4 places I would definitely not go. 2-3 I would go to for sure. Others are up in the air. Yet.. I was afraid of not getting interviews that I applied to everything.

It really depends on your MCAT score. If it's lower, then applying to more schools can only help you. Of course, as others mentioned, if it is really low, it probably doesn't matter how many schools you apply to.

I applied to 10 or 11 osteopathic schools, and only returned 3 secondaries for my top 3. I have interviews at all three schools, but if those all fail, then i'll send in my secondaries to the rest.

I know it's hard to accept, but comparing yourself to others in terms of stats doesn't necessarily give you an accurate estimate as to what kind of candidate you are, though it definitely comforts the soul 🙂 There are people with great stats who don't get in, and people with attrocious stats that get into their top choice.

1)Where did you apply: I turned in secondaries for KCOM, CCOM, and AZCOM
2)Where did you get interviews: KCOM, CCOM, AZCOM
3)Where did you get acceptances: I have interviews for two of the three in the next two weeks so hopefully I'll know soon.
4)What were your stats? 3.5 sci, 3.45 overall. 28 MCAT.

Talk about comforting the soul: then there are people like me, who JUST submitted the online application. Go figure. 😉 Isn't it nice to know you're ahead of the game?

WOW!! I only applied to three Osteopathic schools, and thankfully I have already had two interview invites. How much did it cost those of you who applied to upwards of 20 schools?? ( 👎 I think less is better because the schools want to know that you want their school and not just any school that will take you.)

I applied to all schools initially because I did not feel my numbers were good enough. However, after being offered a seat, I will cancel most of my interviews. So I applied broad to increase chances and I think it was a wise choice. Check out the 2005 Applicants Progress thread. Hit has our stats, applied, interviewed, etc. on it as well as mdapplicants
