Dear SDNers,

Congratulations to all 1st year students, and best of luck to all those on the waiting lists. I just estimated my loans and my heart is sinking knowing that I will be in 43,0000 debt in next two weeks. 34k tution for MCW and 10k for living. How much is everyone paying for private schools? and luck Dawgs for public schools? I am really bad in handling money. SO, I am just trying to get a feeling on how much everybody is spending.
I think this thread may help out students who are still deciding which school they should be applying to.
Thank you.
   Two weeks till MS-1.

Consider yourself lucky...I'm borrowing a little less than 60k for 1st year.

UCLA man,
Are you buying a new ride or something? or is that the tution for Nortwestern? Congrats on your accptance to Northwestern. Its a great school.
Kid.

I'm taking out 38,500...that's pretty cheap, I have friends that are borrowing a lot more like 50-60k. Which my tution is a little less then yours about 26k.

Well I actually wanted to bustle around Chicago in style so that money is also for my 2003 E-class Ben.....wait, let me recalculate here....DOH!!!!....its all for school and living expenses!!!! 😱 😀

Believe you me...I wish it were going towards a Benz. 🙂

Well, I was thinking of getting a litte something something to roll in! You knw! so ladies can appreciate you a little or you can appreciate the ladies! I am joking! Now you are making me feel guilty man! I was hoping to get a new ride.
kid.

Its great to be a Texan. Tuition is 9K something.

Haven't decided how much I will actually take out for living expenses yet.

Your rent must be sky high. That or you bought one freakin' expensive stethoscope.

Average tuition at TX schools is $8000-8500. Average over 4yrs for all school expenses for TX Tech (where I will hopefully go) is around $10k/yr.

My brother went to UTSA and had a better standard of living going to school than he did working full time as a BS degreed programer 😀 He ended up $112k in debt (now consolidated @ 1.9%), but it could have been much better had he tightened up a little.

Definitely nice in TX:clap:

I don't think so anymore. tuition went up as usual this year. at least it is a little over $9,000/yr at Houston now

 55K just for this year. Beat that baby!

Right now i live on 15/k a year....my car insurance is 250 a month and my car payment is 130...lrent is 550 with utilities....phone 100....are you guy planning on living much under 15k????

They're all a little different. UTSA, TT, and UTMB are a little less and UTH, UTSW and Baylor are a little more. I didn't realize UTH was over $9k now. The added expenses (living, driving, parking) are high for UTH as well.

Still a hell of a bargain if you ask me.

living at home + full tuition and fees scholarship = $0 in loans
$9800 from undergrad though. Oh well...

$54K! (for ms-2). I can't wait till I'm a resident and I start earning a salary that is approximately 2/3's of that! Gee, I wonder if that's enough to support the high-maintenance trophy wife? 😉

Oh it is going towards a benz... Just give it some time 😉

How do you get scholarships? What's out there? If you have higher scores than your school typically lets in, can you leverage for finantial assistance?

My guess is that they are only for URM's and highly recruited students are private schools.

About $45K, for NYU (31,000 tuition and fees plus $13,000 living expenses).

Thank God for my state school and its scholarships...I'm only gonna be set back around $8K in loans per year. Could be a LOT worse.

$51,675....

I decided to borrow the max. I would rather have too much than too little my first year. I'm hoping I will not need to borrow as much for years 2-4.

by the way.....

I'm sure you'll love MCW. I really enjoyed my visit there this last year. The campus is very nice, and the faculty and students were great there. The dean of admissions ended up giving me a personal tour of the school because there weren't any students available at the time. I found that to be above and beyond what he needed to do.

Living at home... that's brave of you! I'm living with my parents this summer for the first time in 4 years and it's KILLING ME! Every time the phone rings my mom is listening and asks, "Who was that? Where they callin' from? Where do you know him from?" Yes Mom, it was my boyfriend calling from Taiwan. Yes Mom, he knows what time it is. Yes Mom, he knows how much it costs. Even when I'm wearing my big white coat, I'm still going to be a twelve year-old when I go home, so it's lucky that my medical school is at the Mexican border while by parents live at the Canadian border.
