How picky are they with biochem? What books did people use that they found to be helpful? I have the kaplan medessentials book but it seemed so detailed. I just don't know in reality how much detail we have to know. Also, how about the new biochem-micro techniques? Any ideas or advice?

From what i hear a lot of the biochem is integrated stuff with other disciplines. I think Molec bio is pretty high yield though.

I used RR Biochem to add more detail to the topics addressed in FA (meaning I didn't read the book cover-to-cover) and then I sold it...Though I see some like to use the RR biochem book for the notes/pearls in the margins as well.

any good book suggestions?

How big is the RR Biochem compared to RR Path? I know its like 300 pgs but does it take a long time to get through?

I only used it to clarify topics, so didnt have to get through the whole book. My first look at the biochem section in FA (while annotating from RR) took me a good 12 hours. Depends on the level of detail you want to include in your notes obviously 🙂 but I was rusty on biochem (still am).

The last 100 pages or so are practice questions. I read all of it and annotated applicable FA in a morning's worth of work. It's organized well, so I was able to skip parts of the book that weren't mentioned in FA pretty easily.

I just wrote this, but I'll say it again - "Medical Biochemistry at a Glance"

Caboose.

I wouldn't advise "getting through" any text/review book. That would take so much time. Just find a good book and use it as a reference text for the major concepts you don't understand through FA/question banks.

I think the consensus here seems to be that the more RR Path you know the better?
