I'm getting anywhere from 18 to 21 on CDP tests, with my main weaknesses being in pattern folding and TFE. The real DAT is supposed to be harder than CDP, so I'm worried I'm going to get a 16 or 17 or something. Do you think that amount of time is enough to improve to an acceptable level? I'm hoping for some "light switch on" moment where I suddenly just understand these two sections. 😱

If I were you, I would do many more practice exams of just your weak areas and then do full lengths a few days before the exam.

Do Achiever PAT, it's tough going through it, but when you go through the explanations, it really helps solidify visualizing figures in 3D. Good luck!

I definitely think a week or so will give some improvement, not sure if it will get you to a 25 instantly. PAT takes a lot of practice, but you will see a few points improvement in a week's time if you practice consistently everyday. Crack DAT PAT was a bit harder than the real DAT from my own experience, but it definitely prepares you thoroughly. As above poster said, if you want extra practice, Achiever PAT will definitely help you out too. I agree in that it really helps visualizing with its detailed explanations.

So I was reviewing some TFE explanations online, and I just went back through the first 4 tests of TFE on CDP, and got all 60 right...and averaged like 30 seconds a question, which was WAY faster than I was doing before.

wtf?

I remembered like 2 answers from before, but still. Maybe I just had my light switch moment? haha. Only time will tell. We'll see how the tests go that I haven't seen yet. But, I do have to say that I feel like I "saw" them, rather than just "figured them out". That's a good sign I suppose.

Also, when people say that keyholes on the DAT are more geared towards "proportions", do they mean problems like this? All the answers are a very similar shape. Would the DAT be harder than something like this? (this isn't all that hard in my mind).

Yes, lol. I'm just trying to get an idea of what everyone means about "proportions". What about this? A little harder, bust still not bad. Would this be considered a "proportions" keyhole? If not, what is?

This! 👍

Just remember not to get too pissed off by those frustratingly annoying achiever questions.

And to answer your question 8 days is a lot of time, if used correctly (i.e. multiple tests per day) you'll see a significant improvement. I did 7 full tests in 8 days and that was hard, but very helpful when preparing for my test!

Just got a 22 on CDP #5. Highest score so far. Improvements are a good thing. Angles was my worse section at 10/15. I hate the CDP angles.

I really think with only eight-days left, you need to spend a significant amount of time thinking about the theory behind the questions. I would recommend spending one to two days just thinking about the thought processes recommended for solving questions on the perceptual ability section. For example, work very slowly on a few problems while painstakingly deconstructing the process by which these problems can be solved.

Then, I would do a ton of practice; try to go through the edition of CDP with the ten practice tests and breakdown each question that you got wrong. Such a method involves a lot of mental strain and can be very fatiguing, but it is also devastatingly effective at improving your abilities on the perceptual abilities section of the DAT.

Best wishes!

I thought CDP was very similar to the real DAT. I think my average for CDP was an 18 and I got a 19 on the real thing (which I am happy about). Just do an exam everyday until then and you're bound to improve.

22 again on CDP #6. Hopefully holding strong and/or improving. I've come a long way with TFE. I think I'm also starting to develop a technique for pattern folding. I'm now getting about 70% of the folding right, as opposed to like 35 or 40% before.
