My top choice dental school that I want to attend only requires one semester of Organic Chemistry and one semester of Biochemistry (or two semesters of Organic and no Biochemistry). How much of the material taught during Organic II is tested on the DAT?

I say just take it. Do you really want to run the risk of a low OC score? And what about applying to other schools that require 2 semesters of orgo? It would be crazy to just apply to one school.

I'm not sure you will get enough replies to know for sure, and even at that, it's only for their version. The test is designed to cover a lot of material and to determine if you're well rounded.

Why do people insist on asking questions of this nature? You might as well come out and ask what your version will cover...I mean...I just don't get the point. If you're serious about getting a good score, you'll just take the damn class or just make sure you know your material...on way or the other. If you're going to gamble...just do it...do you really need reassurance? It's not like anybody can give you accurate odds...

As I recall, the DAT focused more on Organic I than Organic II, but I agree with the other posters that you should still take Organic II. Your top choice school might not require it, but other schools do, and what if you don't get into your top choice school? Besides, Organic II reinforces a lot of what you learned in Organic I, and will make studying for the DAT that much easier for you.

The fact that your top choice school requires only Orgo 1 has nothing to do with the actual DAT.

Orgo 2 solidifies a lot of concepts from Orgo 1, so I think of them as synergistic rather than two separate courses. Maybe you can try a search to see how people performed who only took Orgo 1 to help you in your decision.

My DAT was Orgo 2 heavy, just FYI.

Best of luck whatever you choose to do! 👍

rose786 has a good point. Take the class so that you can apply to the schools that require a whole year of Orgo. You don't want to limit yourself and your chances.
