I've heard that there is some ped and ob material on the FAMILY MED shelf. It is enough to warrant reading Blueprints in OB and Peds, or is the kind of basic material we should know from Step 1 (Kawasaki, congenital heart defects, placental abruption, etc)?

I'm thinking about using Step-Up to Medicine as my sole study guide. Is there enough peds/ob stuff in there?

I took it today. It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My best advice is to speed read. I got through the test with about 10 minutes to spare but only because I skimmed through nearly all of the questions. It didn't seem like there was a huge amount of ob or pediatrics. most of the pediatrics stuff were conditions like asthma, eczema, some vaccination stuff, etc. There was more pediatrics than Ob. I reality don't think it was as bad as everyone has been saying but I do agree that knowing my stuff for step I was the best way to prepare for the shelf, except nearly all the questions are "what's the next step in management/treatment of choice/diagnosis."

My experience, most of the OB/Gyn focused more on Gyn, office procedures type stuff, Pap smears. Really easy stuff. If you haven't had an OB/Gyn rotation yet and it really worries you, flip through the OB/Gyn Case Files.

Peds, as always, is a missed bag. Sometimes it's as easy as identifying strep throat. Sometimes it can be wacky stuff. I personally had a fair amount of hip/knee/leg pain type stuff so know SCFE, Legg-Calve-Pethes, Osgood-Schlatter etc.

Peds- a fair amount
OB- none; but GYN is definitely on it.
