I'm wondering how much time should be devoted to studying statistics. I will have 9 weeks to study in the summer.

And what is the best book to use for statistics?

I have a very low background in statistics.......so I'm basically starting from scratch.

maybe half a day in the week before the test. No sense pre-learning something like stats because it doesn't connect to anything else on the exam.

It depends on the background you have in statistics. If it is one of your strengths, you can easily get through it in half a day like illixir said. It took me 2 days to do statistics because it was my worst subject and I felt like I was starting from scratch. High Yield Biostatistics is an amazing book! I used it and highly recommend it for anyone who feels that biostatistics is their downfall.

thanks for the advice...do you think just reading High Yield stats is good for someone who's starting statistics from scratch (having very little if any background knowledge)......or would i, being that person, have to use an additional supplement with the High Yield Stats book?

yea, that should be enough. It worked for me. The book has great explanations and examples to help you work through each concept. I don't think you'll need anything else.

high yield behavorial sci and first aid behav is enough for the limited biostats on the exam. Everything that was asked of me in terms of formulas could be found in those two sources. There are some calculate the mean and specificity questions. I thought UW also did a good job bringing some of those up into practice.
