I have about 5 weeks between finals and my MCAT date (6/20). I am using 4 weeks of vacation time at work to study full time. However if I want a 5th week off from work, I can take a sabbatical for extra time off, but at 20% pay. Essentially I would pay 80% of a week's earnings in order to study full time for the MCAT. (I haven't finalized this yet, and I might just go into negative vacation hours and earn them back later, bypassing the pay cut, but let's say that isn't possible).

I've got my situation figured out, but I thought this would be an interesting poll on SDN. How much would you pay for an extra week to study? If you have a full time job, would you pay 80% of a week's earnings to devote that time to the MCAT? What would your price limit be?

Not only is this test probably the most important of all those you have undertaken so far, it has a lot of influence on the academic and hence professional outlook of your life. It is invaluable and it is advisable to do whatever you think is possible to do well. The benefit of one additional is week is arguable but if you think you need it, you should get it and not worry about the cost.

What would you pay, AP? (I'm not sure if your post was meant to be advice to me. If it was, I appreciate it, but I'm not looking for advice, just discussion.)

"What's your number?" is a question sometimes asked to see the minimum amount of money a person would take as a lump sum and live off for the rest of his/her life. It's an exercise for people to discuss their values in life. Another question is how much is someone's time worth? Would you drive an hour to save $20? $50? etc.

The situation that I faced reminded me of these types of questions, so I was curious what other people would pay (or sacrifice) for an extra week to study for the MCAT.

I'll start. I could really use the extra week, so if someone offered me one, I think I would buy it for 2 week's worth of pay. Above that I think I would hesitate.
