How my ECs look, SDN?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ECs look good, but your stats will be the determinant.

Thank you for your reply. I think my stats are competitive and I'm primarily worried about my ECs at this point. Could others please weigh in?

hifive is right, your ECs are great, I wouldn't think you would need anything additional in this section of your application. Your stats will matter more.

Looks really impressive! Maybe take some random classes so that you're not totally out of the practice of studying and stuff. Take an art class, environmental studies class, literature, and take very good care of your hands!

impressive but don't get too excited. Ec's are SECONDARY to the 2 most important numbers. do your best to do your best on your Dat and GPA

Thank you guys for your replies! My stats are good and I'm not worried about them. Do I need to acquire more leadership experiences?

Should I list the volunteering I did the summer before freshman year on my application?

No to both. You're fine. Go study the DAT or do something fun. Stop worrying so much.

I took the DAT already. My GPA and DAT scores are good. Are my ECs good enough for schools like Columbia and Penn?

To me, your EC's seem like they would be sufficient for schools like Columbia and Penn IF, and this is a big IF, your GPA and DAT are good enough. I would say a 3.7+ GPA and a DAT of 21+ in all 3 sections makes you pretty competitive with those EC's. So if you do have numbers in that range, or even higher I think you are in good shape.

No. You must do at least 1000 hours more research, run for President in your Student Government, and rush for a fraternity. All by the end of next week.

You really should go outside. Work on your social skills. Do something else but worry about dental school all day and night.

I remember OP now though. He posted awhile back the same kind of thread with his stats and school he was going to apply to. He has something like a 3.7 GPA and 23 on the DAT. Stop saying it depends on his numbers guys because he has great stats.

Darn you gave me away AwesomeTeeth. I've a 3.9 actually. I can't really improve my stats at this point.

SDN+my anxiety= SDNitis overload!!! 😳

 lol

One more round and I'll let this thread die.

Do dental schools weigh extracurriculars a lot less than stats?

I've premed friends who were flat out denied by med schools because their ECs weren't good enough. On the premed boards authorities on admissions advise people to take 1-2 years off to buildup their ECs. Are dental school adcoms more relaxed about ECs vs. med school adcoms?

Man the only thing not on there is a cure for cancer. Go play xbox.

It red-ringed. 🙁

I've friends who are applying to med school right now with similar amounts of ECs as I do and they're getting rejected left and right.

Have you considered other factors such as GPA, DAT, Personal Statement, LORs, the whole app etc?

They have competitive GPAs and MCATs (3.6+, 30+). Convincing PS and good LORs. I think it was the ECs that did them in.

Other than stats and ECs, the rest of the app are the PS, LORs, and interviews right? I'll be working on my PS until I apply. My LORs are good. My ECs are what I perceive to be the weakest aspect of my app.

I'm convinced that about 70% of acceptance is the interview.

I agree. I think the interview will make or break an applicant after the pre-interview scrum.

Do I have sufficient ECs to get lots of interviews? I want safety in quantity because I'm a terrible interviewer. :scared:

Threads like these with all the fancy EC's make me feel so inadequate x_x
