How often do you go drinking?
for me, during semster anyway, i usually go about ten or so weeks sober and then have circa two nights on the sauce. what about the rest of you?

on a side note, im currently trying to decide whether or not i can afford (in terms of study) to go all day drinking next thursday for ''Christmas Daze'', an all day christmas session in the campus bar where everyone wears santa hats and sings songs etc. that would be 17 days from exams, not sure if i can afford to lose 1.5 days of work :/ (i'm ms2)
this however is just a side note, the main topic is the above.

I drink every week, sometimes if I don't need to wake up early I'll do it on a weekday, but usually its a weekend day. Now I try not to get crazy hangovers and throw up all the next day, so I skate the limit between happy drunk and sick drunk as much as possible. I never realized how many people don't drink at all during school. I don't know their reasoning, but it seems to me that if you understand your limits, you can easily drink and get drunk regularly with almost no interference with school or any other aspects of life. All day drinking would probably be a no no for me since it would lead to "sick drunk", which is never fun and would inevitably affect the next day of studying. Good luck!

To your first question, I have never gone that long in med school. For me, it always varies by the week I have ahead, but I usually go out at least one night of every weekend if I don't have a test the following week. I drank more 1st year than second, and more second year than third year. I did all this while getting honors levels grades in every class I have taken, so it's not like I was just skating by.

As for your one day bender 17 days before a test, go for it. You still have plenty of time before your exams to get your work done. That 1.5 days of studying more than 2 weeks before your exam will hardly make a dent in your overall grade. If you are really concerned, work harder than normal during those 2 weeks and you will be back to baseline.

First year=once every 2 weeks on average
Second year=once a month
This year=once every 2 months

Once a week during the weekday (usually Wednesday). Then, either Saturday or Friday. Both days, if it's after an exam.

Throw in a happy hour once every few weeks. Would probably go out more often if I had the stamina.

Jesus! You've got to get out man!
I would go out to dinner with friends at least 2 times/ wk and go out to the bars for a couple drinks/socializing w/ the ladies 3 times/ wk. (note: not getting wasted, a couple quality beers over a couple hours.) It's all about time management. I also ran/went to the gym 5 days a week for 45 min-1 hour. School first, then gym, then out to relax. Staying fit makes you feel better. If you feel better, you study better. Before mid term and final exams, it was hermit time for 6-12 days of intense review. Of course I still worked out and just had a beer in my crib.
If you're really not able to get out more than you do, you need to structure your time better. It's not how much you study, but how efficiently you study. I knew many people on your recreation plan. They were not a happy bunch. When you're not in balance, it effects everything, then you're in the misery and depression spiral.

Depends on year.
First year-3 or 4 nights a week if no test the following monday. One or two if there was

Second year-probably averaged a little less then 2 nights a week until about 2.5 months before boards..then it was like one night every two weeks

Third year-Very rotation dependent. Medicine and surgery-1 night a week. The others (so far), about 2. No OB yet. I assume that will be like med and surgery.

Yes, i have done well and no im not smart

Usually twice a week, it was more like three during M1.

For your situation: it's one day half a month from your exam... have some fun.

You sound like you're in my class, lol. You at Kentucky by any chance?lol These lamos are even afraid to go out a night AFTER a test. We have tests every 2 weeks. The more "adventurous ones" might drink the night of the test, but anytime after that oh goshhh noooo. NO one even goes out to dinner. Is this the norm or did i just get cursed with these classsmates? Some of the most antisocial and least friendly people i have ever been around...Someone up there must have been punishing me by making me end up with these lamos.

We usually go out on the weekends here (1st years). Except for the weekend for a test week of course.

I go out to eat with classmates all the time. We usually have a "last meal" at a nice restaurant the weekend before exams (we have Monday/Tuesday exams). We have tests every 4 weeks first year.. and the second years have tests every six weeks.

It took me a while to come to terms with the fact that I'm a "loser"-I used to be really social/ glorified frat boy before med school-You can say I got it out of my system so to speak

And take it easy on the depression and misery talk, would I like to go out more? Sure but life could be a lot worse--I'm also doing very well in school so far so and if it aint broke don't fix it

I'll drink extra hard for you tomorrow after my shelf exam😎:meanie:
