WazUp y'all! I was just curious cause my school really sucks when it comes to testing!!! I mean we actually have to take a quiz directly after every weekend ( Monday morning) ranging from 5-10% of of the overall grade. That's how it is all the time untill it's time for the finals. Also, attending lectures is manditory, so we practically have NO time to study for anything except the upcoming quiz!!!

At my place, we take 'em in blocks for the most part. Three blocks per semester.

We have three exams per semester + shelfs for some semesters, the second and third tests are 10% cumulative, but its really easy stuff if you did well on the material the first time. I like this set up because I feel like its preparing me to study for a giant exam like the USMLE since I have to practice putting massive amounts of info into my brain, since the tests are so infrequent they each cover a really really huge amount of info. It also gives us some down time, only the 2-3 weeks right before an exam are really hectic, like my family came into town last week and we were only 2 weeks out from the last exam so I could take a few days off to spend some quality time with them.

Wow...that would suck I think. I never go to lecture, and all we have are finals and some midterms. Only one class I've taken thus far has quizzes. You're in med school for Christ's sake; they shouldn't treat you like a child.

We just have the final at the end of each block that actually counts for passing. There are weekly quizes, but they are online, open book, and done at home.

2 exams in a block (1 midterm and 1 final)...we also have weekly quizzes, but they are for our PBL cases, are done with the other students and only count for a very small percentage of a grade.

Our school has exams on most Fridays during M1, and a combo of Fridays or Mondays during M2. Rotating, of course (so each class has between 2 and 4 exams per semester, plus a final).

Well, as much as I hate our system, some good can come out of it. Sure i'm behind in all my classes ( e.g. 7 lecs behind in physio!!!) but I get all As b\c I have alot of time to study for each test. I guess that about balances things out, don't you???

Thank you all for you replies,

We dont have any tests or quizzes😀 👍

see that would drive me absolutely mad. you know that episode of the simpsons where the school is shut down and lisa goes mad because no one will grade her, . . .well thats me in a nutshell. I need progress reports of some type to know that I'm on track or that I need to be pushing harder. I about lost my mind having to wait 6 weeks to our first exam having no clue if I was really accomplishing anything or just shoving facts in as fast as they were leaking back out. if you're not as anal about being graded as me tho, I'm sure that system would relieve a ton of stress

My school has 4 exam blocks per semester. The M1s have 4 tests in each exam blocks during the course of one week, while we M2s have our test spread over the course of two weeks. Only the last block exams are cumulative.

I like our system fairly well, when I am not in the midst of a stressful exam period.

We have exams every two or three weeks, usually at the beginning of the week. Except now they're spicing things up with anatomy, but in general thats how it goes.

Last year it was 1-2 exams per week, with finals at the end of the semester.

This year it has been 1 test every 3 weeks (yes!), with some random clinical skills tests, essays for ethics, and an epidemiology final (boooooo...👎 ).

Thanksgiving break marked the end of our 6 exams in 7 weeks period. The worst part is that tests are every Monday, so we almost never got a weekend that wasn't filled with 20 hours of studying. Now it's two weeks without a test and then three finals in one week. Fun times.

We have block exams in the second year- every 3-4 weeks. The cover all the subjects at the same time and are integrated. The exams are non-cumulative except for the shelf exams we take at the end of the year and need to pass before we can sit for Step 1.

Every 8 to 9 weeks. I love it! 🙂

M1 year we generally have exams every three weeks on mondays and tuesdays. M2 is more like every 6 weeks.

We have 4 exams for our combined biochem, genetics, molecular bio course and 5 exams for anatomy. They are sprinkled randomly throughout the term (head and neck Friday! Yikes!).

every week!! there are a few weeks that we don't have any exams, but we'll have quizzes...then there are those weeks that we have 2 exams/week (this week thru x-mas!!!)

Well, i've gotta admit that it's a bit relieving knowing that someone out there is a just as skrewed as I am😀

1 exam that covers everything for 10-12 weeks worth of material (organ-system/unit based).
