How old were you when you applied to Pharmacy School?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Applied, accepted, attending at 20. I've got til October before my birthday.

My birthday's on a Saturday (which I've known for some years now). Game on.

My 21st was the Saturday after first semester of p1 year finals....talk about light at the end of the tunnel.

28 when I start, 32 when I graduate. I'm genuinely surprised there are so many older/non-traditional students going into Pharmacy. Perhaps the sample is too specific (limited to SDN folks).

Most schools I have looked at the average age of acceptance have been 22-25. So there must be quite a few younger students to outweigh the 36+ category.

Applied when 20
Starting when 21
Graduating a few days after 25th bday 😀D

I applied at age 18 with good A level results in Chemistry, physics and biology. Only applied to one college. They were full that year so took a couple of years to do apprenticeship (this was in early 50s). Started at 20 and fully qualified at 23.

Just one student aged 31 in class.

I envy the ones that are getting in at 19/20.😡:meanie:

I can see that. Although, I wouldn't be willing to trade my undergraduate experience or my work experience for it through. The friends, the network, the life, it's all part of how I wanted to build up my world and it keeps growing.

By the way, I'll be 25 when I apply.

Knew I wanted to be a pharmacist at 20.
Applied, accepted and will start school at 23.
Will finally be one at 27.

There were at least two people at my interview that were probably over 65 (maybe a lot older...it can be hard to tell)!

Applied at 24, matriculating at 25 and will graduate when I'm 29!

Not promoting ageism here, but why start professional school when you are nearing retirement? Can you imagine the debt they will incur at such an, umm, older age (I guess😳)?
Maybe they can afford it without debt, but I was thinking there might be more relaxing ways to spend your time. Still, some people just love to learn, no matter their age! More power to them!

I'll be 24 when I start school for Prepharmacy I'm hoping I will be accepted into Pharmacy shchool when I am 26.

applied: 71
graduating : 74

lol just kidding I know I got you.

applied: 27
starting: 28
will graduate:32

I got here to the US when I was 18. 2 years waiting legal documents, 4 learning english (hardest of all), 4 BA chemistry/biochemistry.

I first applied to pharmacy school when I was 21, though I was not actually accepted until I was 22. The academic year didn't start until I was 23.

For simplicity's sake, I'd say I started pharmacy school at 23. It's a bit weird to think of that right now.

29 when I applied, will be 30 when I start this fall. I'll be 34 when I graduate. I still get compliments that I look like I'm 20. It's all good! 😀 I'm not old, I'm just wise!

I had to do a double take on that one. Now I have whiplash in my neck.😡

You all make me feels so old, lol.

I should have applied years ago - but I was supporting my ex financially (PA turned MD) while he attended college. The bastard ended up dumping me after he graduated 😱 :meanie:

Anyways, I'm picking up where I left off, hoping to apply to pharm school very soon.

Honestly, I don't care how long it take. I just want to be a PHARMACIST! 👍

Changed majors, went from computer science to pharmacy so...

applied 26-27, started at 28, graduating at 32. Glad to see there's others in my age group 🙂

We've had a few in our class over 50, though. Good times.

Applied - 28
Accepted - 28
Starting - 29 😀

Applied&Accepted&Started: 24
Graduate: 31.... tear!!!

Applied - 21
Start - 22
Graduating - 26

Applied and accepted at 21, starting at 22. I wish I would've gotten my stuff together earlier and been able to apply after sophomore year, the last two years of undergrad were basically unnecessary. Why I want to be a pharmacist is a long story.

How many people got/plan on getting married during pharmacy school? My girlfriend finishes school next fall, so we'll be tying the knot right before the start of second year.

Just curious 😕
Applied and accepted...17
Started at UF...............18
Graduate with PharmD..21

I am the youngest and there are people in their 40's in my class with the majority of students in their mid 20's.

I only applied to one school.

Had no idea what I wanted to do when I was younger, and I wouldn't change a thing. I had a lot of fun in college and my early 20's 😉

Applying: 25
Hopefully starting: 26 :xf:

Are you a prodigy or were you not required to do any pre-requisite coursework before the professional program?

BS Pharmacy graduate at 20 (foreign school), PharmD applicant at 24, PharmD graduate at 28.

Lets see, I will be 35 when I start pharmacy school and graduating at 39.

Older than many of you here but I wouldn't change it for the world. I have a worked as a pharmacy tech for almost 6 years and in the laboratory for almost 3 years. Plus, I have had numerous other jobs to help pay for college. I met and married a wonderful man and have had two awesome children.

I've had many great experiences getting to where I am now and look forward to overcoming another challenge. 🙂

I'll be 24 when I start school for Prepharmacy I'm hoping I will be accepted into Pharmacy shchool when I am 26.

Awesome, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. 🙂 I'll be 24 and my husband will be 26 when we start.

Applied and accepted at 20, but that's a rarity these days. I think they're pushing the average to 22+ (post bach). Any word on this becoming official for all schools? I know Ohio State requires an undergrad degree.

Lucky bastard. Did you do prereqs during high school? Awesome you got in at such a young age, but why push for pharmacy so early? I'd enjoy a few years of undergrad and being young but that's just me...

It really isn't that rare. I know 10-15 people who got in at 20 and one at 19. I think it's just that the average age on these forums is a bit higher than the average age of people actually going to pharmacy school.

I think I'll be early 30 when I apply and I'll graduate right before I turn 35 if everything goes according to plan...

I wish I would've known then what I know now. I wish I would've gone to a state university right from the start that allowed CLEP. I wasted over a year on classes I could've tested out of, but our local community college doesn't allow that.

Oh well, I'll work with what I've got to work with now and hopefully at least my daughter can blast through school instead of taking a bunch of repetitive things she already learned in high school.

My best case scenario
Current age 56
Age at applicaton 59
Age at acceptance 60
Age at completion 64

and this is not kidding, it's for real. I'm an engineer in telecommunications and it's a dead end industry. I'm the sole support for myself and husband and need a new career. I am also pretty active (marathoner) and a good student, but it's an uphill battle for sure.

I've got to say, I think I'd look twice at pharmacy at that age, because the cost of school keeps going up and the job prospects seem to be going down (for now, at least). Is there a way you could study a different type of engineering? That might be a much quicker and less expensive path to a more stable job...as a personal aside, a family member retired from engineering many years ago and still gets recruitment letters to come work.
