how physically taxing is being a dentist (GP)?

do you go home every day with a sore back, neck and hands?

i know of a dentist who had a stress fracture in two of her cervical vertebrae, simply from leaning over patients all day long.

i also remember getting my impacted wisdom teeth taken out, and seeing my dentist literally grabbing onto my chair with his free hand to get some leverage, and seeing the obvious look of physical strain on his face as he tried to extract a tooth (or should i say chunks of tooth) that would not budge.

is this a profession that you could physically manage to do to the age of 60?

yeah it can get pretty physical in the dental chair!..lol
seriously anybody who practised dentistry will tell you that sore neck, lower back and even finger joints are all too common.
Dentists work in a very limited space; the oral cavity and as such are subject to physical stress not to mention the psychological stress of doing the delicate work in often a not-so-ideal oral environment.
By the way I dont think I wanna still be doing dentistry when i hit 60...just too much, hopefully the insurance companies will let us take home some decent money so we wont have to work past retirement.
