Just curious... I have about a week left, I don't really want to pay for another NBME assessment. Qbank's been really smacking me around and I've heard it's not the best predictor from a lot of folks anyhow. I'm just wondering what other people's experiences have been as far as how predictive the practice test is that comes with the CBT software you can download... anyone?

I think my posts are the least-replied ones on this board. 🙁

I think those CBT free tests are quite a bit easier than the real deal... I've heard that the best resources for score prediction are the NBME exams. QBank isn't as reliable because everyone has different methods of using it. Some will only do questions in areas they have studied, others continually do random blocks, etc. I think that the bottom line is that the only way to come after this thing is to do as many questions as you can get your hands on, learn from them, and retain the info. There isn't a score that you can get, either on QBank, NBME, CBT, or otherwise, that will affect your real score at all... good luck.

no one is answering b/c no one really knows. just like no one really what score a certain kaplan qbank percentage correlates to. i have looked at most of the released items, and they seem a good bit easier than the nbme questions.

this is a big test coming up. if you really want to know where you stand, the safest thing to do is fork over the money for another nbme, and don't rely on anyone on here to tell you what correlates to what.

good luck.

If you have the Robbins Review of Path book, you may consider doing that. I mean, those questions are good and they are much cheaper than NBME. I've taken 2 exams and dunno if my wallet wants to take another it, ya know?

i agree qbank is not a great predictor, although i do think it's a good study tool. i think the nbme assessments are a good predictor - you've spent $800 so far between the exam and qbank, so i think it's worth another $45 and 4 hours to do a practice exam.

Yeah, when you put it like that. lol I dunno, with less than a week now until my exam date I'm really not sure if there would be any value in doing another assessment. My school gives the basic science shelf, and I did one paid NBME. So I've done two basic science assessments, plus the pathology shelf. If I did good on an NBME now, I'd just get nervous I'd forget everything by next Wednesday. And if I did bad, it'd destroy what little confidence I have going into it. I just thought if the CBT thing is a good indicator based on others' experience (I don't know if it was available last year), since it's free, I might do it.

But I agree, if I really wanted to know or thought it would be that useful, the best thing would be to fork out the $45 and do another assessment.
