Hello all! I am a first year DPT student and so far I have completed a summer semester and almost all of my fall semester of my first year in school. This is a question for 2nd and 3rd year DPT students. I am truly interested in your opinions as to how ready you all feel knowing that your time in school is coming to an end? Do you feel confident heading out into the real world? Should I be freaking out that I feel I still don't know a lot and i'm basically 1/4 of the way through my 2 years of classes? (3rd year is all clinicals). Thanks for everyone's responses in advance!

When you graduate and get your license you will have a fraction of the information you need to be a good PT. School and licensing just ensure you know just enough to not kill someone.

I graduated May 2015. I have been working for 4 months now. I was freaking out before starting my last clinical, but by the end I 100% prepared. Now that I am working, I feel like I don't even use fraction of what I know on a daily basis. Of course there are some challenging cases, but having a good mentor will help a ton!

In our program, the first year is all basic sciences...not really PT specific. So I definitely feel better in my second year now that we are applying the concepts to PT treatment.

I made immense gains I have made from my first year to graduation . I can laugh at my first clinical my first year and where I am now( about to graduate) . I have waaaaaaay more lnow leg and feel great about starting the workforce. At my last rotation which was my 2nd long term ( all 3 long terms done in last year) there were 4 1st year PT students from my school. They were freaking out about how much more I knew versus them. I assured them I was in their position in my first year. I say all that meaning to just keeping working hard and you will get better and better. You will be amazed by your last year how better of a therapist you are.
