Hey, guys!

First of all, I have to say I've done the quiz already, I’ve searched the forum and even I’ve bought a book on the subject.

Well, I’m a Brazilian MD student, currently in the last year and the choice of residence is being very tough, making me spend a good time to think about it. Something common, I suppose. I’m between general surgery and neurosurgery.

The general surgery catches my attention because I’ve been frequented a good service and I've just loved the surgical technique as the skill necessary in the procedures. Also, in my family there are other general surgeons what enables me to further expand my field early in the work career.

On the other hand, I love studying neurology, it's the "final frontier" of our time and the neurosurgery approach with high sophisticated technology - though not as interesting from my point of view as in general surgery techniques - generates enough interest in me as well.

I would like to reconcile the practice of general surgery with the study in neurology. Does anyone have any light to show me possible ways to go into with that?

Thanks in advance.

Other than neurosurgery, there's not really much that surgery has in common with neurology. General surgery certainly doesn't have much in common with neurology. You'll just have to pick one. Now if you are trying for a US based residency program, realize that getting a neurosurgery spot would be next to impossible.
