Hi there, I signed up for Kaplan's MCAT program last month but now decided I'm more interested in dental. The classes haven't started yet but it's a hassel to switch classes around with Kaplan so I'm just curious what everyone's opinion how well I can do on DAT if I prepped for the MCAT?

Your input is very much appreciated!

From what I have heard, they are indeed very different. It seems that MCAT is more concept based where as DAT requires a lot of memorization of little intricate details in order to do well...Also, the DAT RC passages are much easier than the MCAT passages...Additionally, DAT doesn't have Writing and Physics on it but it does have PAT which the MCAT doesn't have...so I would make the switch if I were you to be safe...

G. Chem - O. Chem, you will be good.
Bio - If you prepared for MCAT, It will certainly help over all but you will also need some additional stuff like Plant etc. IMO, prepare with MCAT and add additional stuff which are in DAT.
RC - If you prepare MCAT, you will be good with DAT's RC. I would say, just week before the DAT exam do few of DAT RC practice test.

Important thing is PAT which MCAT doesn't have so you will certainly need practice for that. May be week or so.

I'm not sure about math in MCAT but QR section in DAT is like SAT math. When you practice PAT do like 10 practice test of math as well. Week for both of them should be enough.

You will certainly waste your time with PHY in MCAT.

IMO, if someone is ready for MCAT, it takes additional 2 weeks to craft MCAT into DAT.

What is this keyhole non-sense? I tried to do some keyhole questions and I felt like I was trying to teach a worm how to ride a bicycle. I have a newfound respect for anybody who takes the DAT. 👍

lol. Teach me how to figure out how the author feels!

I thought the MCAT was primarily passage based, whereas DAT just asks you flat out questions. Aside from the RC section of course.

yep, MCAT is mostly passage-based conceptual/contextual understanding. It doesn't have any plant, ecology, or animal taxo/physio. It's phasing out basic ochem in favor of biochemistry, and has physics. Verbal reasoning is a different monster compared to the DAT's RC. I got a 10 on VR and a 23 on RC. Finally, the PAT will break you if you don't prepare for it. Losing whatever time you've already spent and changing courses will help you much more than staying in your MCAT course.
