I just wanted to see if I was missing something, but I've been replying to recent interview offers within 2-3 minutes and I've been losing out on my requested days and running into problems.

Is everyone just sitting on their computer all day waiting for an email to pop up and then replying within a second, or am I missing something?

It's unsettling how fast interviews are taken up. It's because most applicants have smartphones that automatically inform you when e-mails come in, and then send an e-mail right away. Factor in that some people may receive their e-mails before others due to server issues and you get interview spots that are quickly taken before you can respond. I had to throw in the towel and get an iPhone too once interview season started. Isn't technology awesome?

It's possible that some of these places are offering 2nd wave interviews with days already partially filled? 2-3 minutes really should be fast enough...

I'm just confused because some of these interviews I was already doing other work on my computer and my gmail popped up with a notification and I was able to respond within a few minutes. But, even in those situations my requested dates were already taken. I guess the server issues and second waves help explain the situation. Its quite unfortunate that you work so hard to earn these interviews and a couple of seconds make or break whether you can make your schedule work or be a complete mess.

Good luck to you other applicants! Hope the servers treat you well! 🙂

Just a thought- Gmail notifier on the PC can be delayed up to 5 minutes after the mail message has arrived. On the iPhone it's worse and default gmail settings are such that you can receive a mail message up to 15 minutes late due to the manual "fetching" of the mail. Setting up gmail as 'exchange' on your smartphone will solve this problem since your mail is then delivered almost instantly due to the server differences.

It may be too late for this to really be useful, but...

If there is an option to phone, send an email and then call immediately. If it's busy, keep calling. If you actually speak to the coordinator, you can confirm a date over the phone, whereas the coordinator might not read the emails until the phone stops ringing.

I would hope that everyone is doing this. You should always try by phone first, when accepting an interview offer. You can send an e-mail while on hold, but always try to call first.
