I took 28 credits in first year with 14 credits each term (4 courses/term: 3 sciences and one elective). For second year, I had to take 12 credits (3 sciences and one elective) in fall semester due to personal issues at home; however, I did take 15 credits (3 sciences, 1 first year english course, and one elective) in the spring semester.

For this year, I will be taking 16 credits per semester (5 courses/semester). How strict is UofA on courseload? I hope they don't look down on me because of one year and one semester where I didn't take 5 classes per semester.

From personal experience, I had 3 semesters in my 4 year undergrad stint with 4 courses only, and I did get accepted into U of A Pharmacy. Ofcourse, having a high GPA helps, but I don't think courseload would be too big an issue if your GPA is decent (specifically your GPA for pre-requisites).

From what I hear, it's a plus if you've taken a full course load while maintaining a competitive GPA (and a competitive application). They want to know that you can handle the pharmacy course load if you're accepted.

With that being said, it's not going to kill your chances if you didn't take at least 5 classes every semester. There are other parts of the application that have more weight than the number of classes that you took.

During my 3rd and 4th years at UBC I took 4 classes/semester (all science, though, except one class, and taking electives in the summer) and eventually I was accepted to U of A pharm.

I felt like that was the main flaw in my application to U of A, but it is possible to get in without a full course load.
