I passed by a dosimeter named "Air counter S", it is a GM type and of a cheap price (70$) but I am worried if it will be suitable for a radiology resident? Regarding it's range and sensitivity since it's marketed for non professionals to detect background gamma radiation.

It's Measuring range: 0.05-9.99 microsieverts per hour.

Any inputs?

Almost all hospitals in the US have a radiation safety department. It is mandatory for them to provide monthly dosimeter badge to whomever is working with radiation. They measure your dose monthly and make sure you are not going beyond thepermitted dose. There is no need to buy one.

If you are going into IR, probably buying your own Lead is not a bad idea, since many leads in the deprtment may not fit you well.

Thanks on your reply. The problem is that I am doing my residency in Egypt and we don't have radiation safety department or personal dosimeter as a must. I am considering to buy one for myself and I want to know if that " Air counter S" will be suitable or it's working range is too low for radiology?
