Hey Pod students!

Just wondering how tech savvy is your school? Hows the school network, on campus and in the dorms/apts?

I've heard Scholl is pretty good with technology, what about the other 8 (well actually 7 because nobody is at Western yet) schools?

I was disappointed with the IT departmet when i came to scholl. Wireless has frequent problems and microphones seem to go out now and again.

On the other hand, I like that ALL notes for all classes are on "d2l" which is similar to blackboard or an online course materials network. It allows me to attend classes with lectures in front of me, store all my notes on my computer and not need to print a single thing.

Connecting to the wireless network here has been rather difficult from day one, but for the last month or so has been horrible. We have also had the servers crash during an online exam.

Having all the notes online is very convenient. Some of the lecturers even record their lectures and post that online as well.

OCPM is pretty much leading the front I believe. Wireless throughout the building. I've never had a problem connecting anywhere on campus. Also touchscreen computers at every anatomy lab station. Also got the plasmas + live eye camera to demonstrate dissections.

When did they do the touchscreens at each station? When I interviewed, it was only the back wall. Also, what can you do with these - online netter's or something???

OCPM definitely has great technology & campus now, up there with DMU/Azpod/etc.

dmu also has tablet pc's for each student, all electronic medical records for reference and all lectures are mp3 format as well. every seat in the auditorium has ethernet plug ins and electrical outlets. they have an agreement with off campus apartments that are right by the campus and the wireless network reaches them for free.

interviewed at scholl and azpod and they were nothing compared to dmu.

They just rolled them out at the beginning of this semester. You can access anything you want online, has an interactive netters, pandora for music while you dissect 😀

You are paying for the tablet PC's though as they are factored into your tuition.

I know OCPM is wireless, has all the lectures on mediasite, similar to what temple uses (capture system). I think most of the pod schools have something like this - Barry and Cali don't have lectures recorded though.

Oddly enough, DMU has the cheapest tuition of all the podiatry schools too.

Western has wireless throughout the campus and in classrooms. The new patient care center (DO, DPM, DMD, & OD programs) will be all EMR and digital/computed radiography. All classes are captured, uses Bb system, has a good IT support system for students. Has simulated patient labs that are actively used.

Hi Everyone,

How is technology, wireless, and electronic resources (lectures, labs, etc.) at Scholl? I technically didnt visit the campus and, therefore, did not have a tour of their facilities, so I just need some insights from those of you who are currently students there and those who interviewed there. I would love to hear what you all think of Scholl as a whole too in comparison to other schools u interviewed/visited. I interviewed at 5 schools, but Scholl is the only one i didnt see in person.

I am still deciding between Scholl and Temple (assuming I get in--my interview is this Thursday). But like some of you have mentioned, OCPM and DMU has excellent technology and I was very impressed too! Lots to offer their students!

I believe the most important question that you can ask regarding technology as a pre pod is "does the school provide recordings of the lectures?" I personally do better when I have a recording of the lecture and can play it back and hit pause when I need to look something up or think about it.

Does AZpod offer recorded lectures? If they do are they videos or just mp3s?

The school allows recording provided that the professor is OK with it. Then the students are pretty good about sharing the recordings, so you can usually get your hands on one if you need to.
