How and when has unusual family or personal circumstances affected your achievement in school or work?

I can't think of any situation in my life where anything like that has affected my education... also... I dont think any such circumstances have ever came up in my life.. :S.. I mean.. through out middle and high school, i was only absent for 2 days... and I've never missed a class in college so far..

Please help!

thanks in advance

Um... this isn't something anyone can help you with on an anonymous internet forum. Quite a personal question, as in it has to do with YOUR experiences, not ours. Sorry.

Wildcat's right. You need to consider your own life and pick things out. Ultimately, maybe you really haven't had any such thing effect your performance, in which case the answer is simply that you haven't had to overcome anything. Of course... few have such ideal circumstances, hence the question.

This sounds like one of those optional questions at the end of an application that are a place to explain special circumstances if someone has one. Are you sure every applicant has to answer it?

I'm sure this is not an optional question. This are "adversity" essay, that aims to guage how well do u handle challenges/adversities. In other words, have u been tested b4 and r u mentally/emotionally prepared for the demands of medicine???

But seriously, I can't believe the OP has a perfect attendance, u've never overslept, skipped a boring class, partied too hard da night b4??? These r premedical requirements..

Make something up. They ask a stupid question, they get a stupid answer.

its required question.. i made stuff up..i killed my grandpa again 2 years ago.. he passed away in 1997...lol

sometimes, if there is no o-great-life-changing situation, stick with the honest simple truthful problem that you overcame 🙂

worked for me...

Hm, well if they really wanted an adversity essay it should have been worded differently. There's first the use of the word "unusual" and then specifically asking if it affected school or work. Adversity could affect school or work but it doesn't have to in order to have been difficult. And "family and personal circumstances" makes it sound like they're looking for an answer like a death in the family or growing up in a low income household.
